I was doing a normal take off from stop during my ride yesterday, and the bike was bucking like crazy. Like the clutch was slipping then grabbing hard. See:

(Note: I’m not a YouTuber, it’s just the easiest way to share videos when needed to ask these questions)

You can hear the clutch slipping/grabbing. You can also see the bucking. I pulled over once more towards the end of the video to try again, and it went back to normal. In fact, everything was back to normal for the rest of the ride.

Anyone experience this? The bike has <1K miles.

The slipper mechanism is either dry or too much Lube.

Is that a temporary thing? I just pulled over for a few seconds when this happened. I had it on the side stand for ~15 seconds. It was ok before and after that.

Mine was doing it too. Really bad when it was cold. I checked my oil and it was above the top line in the sight level glass. The idiots overfilled it at the first service. So last week I did it myself and now the level is right below the top line and it stopped grabbing and then slipping.

Yes. When I did it, I drained it let it drip a while and then added three liters….and it was almost at the top of the sight line. The dealer probably just dumped in the 3.6 liters. I used Motul, and after I let it warm up…the nice green color in the glass turned to green/brown….which shows of course that there was stilll a bit of the old oil in it. But yes, no more grab/release/grab clutch.

It happened again today. This time I feathered the clutch a bit more and it eventually went away. I think it’s something temperature related as it has only happened near the start of my ride. It doesn’t happen once things heat up it looks like. My oil is a bit above the max line, but it’s been like that for three months, and I’ve never experienced this before.

Actually, there is something new for the clutch on these bikes. There is a clutch pressure adjustment screw near the clutch slave cylinder that is tamper-sealed. It likely needs adjusted by your dealer.

^^^ I don't know how new that is. I thought everything from the 1199+ had it.

The bike has to sit for two hours off before you check the oil. This is how a lot of dealers are overfilling it. Either way, that's the first thing I'd correct before doing more troubleshooting.

Mine only did it when it was cold and the bike had been sitting a few days. I think the overfill of the oil messed up the friction plates in the clutch a bit.

If not properly adjusted, could it result in randomly causing this problem? I would think that it would be happening all the time if it was because of this.

That adjustment is something to keep in mind, but I doubt its your problem. They get set at the factory and are typically never adjusted again.

There were a couple threads which mentioned that adjustment, but it was more in reference to smoothing out power launces, not an obvious bucking and jerking problem when cold.

My bike sits for long periods —it’s a weekend bike. It’s never happened before, but happened twice this weekend. It seems to be fine after it’s warmed up though.
