I am looking for a C-spanner to adjust the preload on the TXX36 shock for the 1199SL. I have not been successful in finding a genuine Ohlins tool so now looking at getting something like this instead.

Question --> anyone who knows which size of C-spanner to get to fit the shock?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Slightly off topic, can you buy the hydraulic preload adjuster separate and install it with basic tools?

It can be bought separately. Not sure about installation with basic tools but you can ask RickD996 I recall him installing one on his R.

Yes, it is possible to mount a hydraulic preload.
you also need a shorter spring, replace the spring clip and mount it correctly.
Professional tools and knowledge are needed to make it perfect.

I was thinking about the preload adjuster with the remote knob. The spring the V4S comes with is shorter compared to the overall length of the shock then those on the xx99 bikes. But, for some reason the V4R spring is longer.

I have been running the short spring setup for sometime primarily due to the geometry change with the billet front race mount, shock eye, plates and rod adjustor. I have a hydraulic preload just never needed to install.

Having all the various spanner tools is a must.

Very nice setup, looks like a surgery!

In all the xx99 Ohlins uses springs ref: 01092 (L 170mm, inner Dia 57mm)
In order to install a hydraulic preload you need a shorter spring ref: 21041 (L 150mm, inner Dia 51-53) and since the spring is also narrower, change the Spring Clip as well.
It is also possible to mount a Racing R-0877 spring (L 130mm) to reduce weight...
In V4 S with electronic Ohlins shock absorbers they come from the factory with springs 21040 (L 160mm), 21056 (L 175) and different Spring Clip.
Depending on the hydraulic preload model you want to mount, you may also have to replace the Spring Clip, but you can keep the spring you now have 21040-85.
Depending on the budget and the use you are going to give it, you have several options.
