Question for the Forum:

On Wednesday, I got a call from Ducati (or someone very Italian & pretending with a great Italian accent) stating they were from Ducati and wanted to congratulate on my purchase of my 1199 Tricolore Panigale.

I was very skeptical at first, as the number came in as Private or unknown & he was asking all kinds of questions. He clearly did not know English well, so it added to his credibility.

He called to congratulate on my purchase and advised Ducati was sending me a signed plate or letter for my bike. I couldn't really understand what he was saying they were sending me.

All he asked that I do was verify my home address and email address, WHICH HE ALREADY HAD. I did not give it to him versus he read it to me. In addition, he had a email address that I gave my dealer (bought lots of bikes from them), but that I never give out, so this wasn't some random call.

I verified it was accurate and he said thank you & to look for my letter/plaque soon.

Question: Anyone else get a call like this? My dealer had no-idea what this was about.

Thoughts?

With all the 1199's we've sold, I don't think any one of our customers has received a call from Ducati. Usually, even with the other manufacturers, they contact us here at the dealership as well as ship anything going to the customer directly to us leaving it our responsibility to get in touch with our customers.

Seems sketchy though.

This is EXACTLY what I thought. But, the more I think about it, I didn't release any info. He knew I had the bike and my personal info (address & email).

he asked for my birth date, but I just gave him the months and not the year.

So, I really didn't release anything that wasn't already public knowledge....

Still seems odd, but this is the second bike I bought from Ducati this year, so who knows...

I have credit fraud protection, so I'm not too worried, but hell let's hope I this is actually legit!

I keep you guys in the loop. Finger's crossed that this was real, as it would be very cool.

weid call

hi yes i got a call the same as yours, i thought it was ok because of his bad english. this was back in may.havent received nothing yet strange.

Ducati's been doing this for a while now. Funny I never got a call on either my streetfighter or the pani.

No worries it's not a scam

I agree with tbot. I also checked with my Sales Mgr and he said, no. Beware, does sound pretty sketchy.

Hi Bigboost, yes I got the same call and was suspicious just like you. I also did not volunteer any info he did not have. I posted a querie like this "call from Italy" and had a few replies saying yes they had had the same call. AC

I got a call yesterday. Certainly an Italian accent, congratulated me on my bike, then asked me to confirm my address and email address, which he had already.

Yeah I got one.
Basically said : congrats on the purchase now can we spam you? Which I agreed too. Silly me.

Hopefully the Italians have heard if unsubscribe.

Personally I did not receive a call either. ;-)

However I do remember a few months ago there being a similar thread or posts on this issue. Subsequent to that, many and me included, got a letter from Ducati which a) apologised about the DDA/GPS being late, b) congratulated on the bike and c) had some code in it (can't remember what for but I think it was to register the bike on their website).

Hence, don't hold me to this, but it sounds very similar and is probably harmless.

No call but got a mail from Ducati 4 days ago.
Congratz on my bike, DDA+ now available, will receive Ducati servicecard soon and ask me to register on the site to get notifications on updates, wich i haven't done yet.
