Carbon Fiber Tank:

do they need to be lined.... are they ready for install when bought and fill up with fuel or do they need extra things to make work and hold fuel

the carbonvani was a bit off a hassle to put on.. there is a internal fuel line that came off and cost me a trackday at Assen and the 2 rings holding the screws tot the frame had to be milled off as they didn't fit.. also , of the gas cap, only 4 of the 5 holes were usable... for the rest its installing the fuelpump and niplles which is screw on and filling her up...

there are not that many tank makers. the others i konw off are SIGL and ILMBERGER all at around 1700 - 2200 euro's...

ok but eventually it went on and it worked out correct ?? what do you mean the internal fuel line came off and what can someone do to prevent that if they were to get a carbonvani tank. Also my question of concern is , is the tank coated from the inside to hold the fuel safley ??? Will it hold fuel safley no problem without expansion problems or leaks ?

i cant speak for specific us fuel items... the fuel tanks seem to do ok over here... let it be for cosmetic reasons as the weight over the alu is not that much lighter....

I installed one for a customer on a 1098 about a year ago. I don't know what brand it was, but the fueling package screwed directly into it and it's still in service with no issues. The bike is street ridden and the ONLY fuel you can get in my area from consumer pumps is 10% ethanol.

The issue with fiberglass tanks and E10 has to do with the resin used, which shouldn't be an issue with carbon fiber. Some fiberglass resins dissolve in the presence of alcohol.........and I never trust manufacturers words that they're OK after Glass From the Past told me his fiberglass tanks were E10 friendly, only to have the $800 tank I bought from him for my Aermacchi come unglued.

Carbon sure is pretty, but I believe I'd go with aluminum if it's my bike. As previously mentioned, not much lighter than aluminum and impossible to repair after it gets mangled.
