Carbon Fiber Under Seat Tray Installed

I have had mixed experiences with DP carbon parts. Mostly problems with weave and fitting. Some DP parts have been appalling quite honestly. ALL the CDT parts I have bought in the past fitted straight on, with perhaps one or two requiring some very minor dremelling or filing. CM Composit and Ilmberger are the only other two makes worth considering. Whilst Carbonvani make a comprehensive range of parts, I don't know how they compare with CDT but all I can say is I have no complaints with CDT. Expensive but good in an nutshell.

I have a fair bit of Carbon Fiber experience with Ducati Corse Factory (DCF), Ducati Performance (DP), Shift-Tech (ST), CDT and Carbonvani across 998S, 1098S and 1199S.

On my bikes I pretty much have replaced all the black plastic crap (visible and non-visible). Nearly all on the 998S.

1098S and 998S are all Gloss CF while my 1199S is matte/satin.

Generally I prefer Ducati branded CF, with DCF first and quickly followed by DP. While DCF is the most expensive, followed by DP I have never had any quality or fitment issues. The weave and fitment has been consistently excellent. Personally, I consider DCF and DP to be the best. Where DCF or DP parts are not available then I will go to other vendors.

On the 998S I have Ducati Corse Factory.

On the 1098S for parts that are not Ducati Corse Factory or DP then I went with CDT Elite (gloss) it is good although not as good as DCF and on par with DP for the 1098S.

On the 1199S I have all the DP range, a couple of CDT pieces and Carbonvani. While CDT is a good fit, the quality is not as good as Carbonvani.

A lot of folks really rate ST, in terms of quality of service and products. I have ST plate frames on all my bikes. I found about ST after I went with CDT elite, so I mention ST as they are well worth a look.

Helmet is Arai/Ducati pure carbon fiber.

Just my experience.

Looks great Xbox! Where abouts on the planet is that license plate from? Somewhere with curvy roads I'm guessing... :)

Give it a couple of years and we will see the transition to Graphene as part of an overall shift away from Carbon Fiber. This will occur for three reasons (1) Strength : where as Carbon Fiber has a tensile strength of 6.3GPa, Graphene is pushing 120GPa+ (2) Cost : Graphene sheets even today are a fraction of the cost of regular Carbon Fiber (3) Graphene manufacturing process is relatively straight forward and suitable for 3D printing applications.

Would love one of those helmets. Did you get the little custom graphic done on the back ?

I agree, the CDT part does look to be moulded very nicely, particularly the clips.

Carbonvani satin finish rivals DP:)

Looks great Xbox! Too bad it was such a pain in the ass but looks like the end product paid off. Thanks form sharing.

The custom graphics on the back are not an option for USA residents due to mandatory placement of the DOT sticker.

Mmmh, job and a half

- Took 1hr of stripping, expected.

- 2hrs of refinishing the carbon fiber, since the mounting clips were way off. Granted, its a super complex part to mould, but I expected something a little closer to being installable and ready to go

- 1hr to mount the damn piece onto the brake light assembly

- 1/2hr for cleaning all the body panels, since they were off :p

- 1hr to rebuild

Fook

Pics.....

Thought this was overkill strip down, its just 8-clips, 4 of which you can easily see and touch. Noooooo:confused:

So, more parts come off.....

Bend, file, dremel, lubricate and finally bash to install, but its nice :p

Finished and Carbonvani is a good match to DP.....

thanks for sharing, I never thought that such a little piece can have a big impact on aesthetics, I will definitely get one for myself.

It may have been a hassle, but it sure looks great.:)

I wonder what happened to the board member here that was going to make them?
