Some pictures of Carbon Sigl Ducati 1199 full carbon frame.

The one on the official Ducati website for the 1299 SL looks very similar to that with some exceptions. It has some bolt in trellis work, some strengthening around the steering stock mount and fuel pump and tank mounts which I can only assume is aluminum. But it looks like more of a render than a photograph..... Says it's 1.7kg lighter than the stock 1299 item

The picture of the Sigl frame scares me, that join in the middle looks so pronounced

target was : 30%lighter and 25% more rigid - they even exceeded that.

Yep That looks two piece. CDT said that they had a different approach if they were going to build it. As far as it being 25% more rigid, I don't know how that plays into the delicate engineering balance as that 25% rigidity is for sure going to translate into some areas of interest with regard to handling and the motor's involvement as a stressed member. Interesting. I will see if I can order one today for an eval.
 
I have seen their products. If you look at the tank, you will notice that it is built in sections this opposed to the CDT tank which is one piece. These guys seem to use more traditional methods of assembly. I def like the idea of a seamless unit.
 
I would be curious if the OP noticed any changes in feel after using it. They make a mention of "increased dampening" and that's about it. I know you can engineer a carbon piece to flex in just about any way you want to if you are smart enough. But it would be interesting to know what other benefits they were going for besides weight.
 
Yes good points. I don't know how your getting 25% stiffer and more dampening unless it is just harmonic translation. As far as weight goes, if your measuring your bike parts with a gram scale, just go on a diet as the only benefit your going to see is psychological. Cracks me up. "i installed titanium caliper bolts and it made a huge difference" weird.

the sigl tank is one piece. he explained it in the vid ;)

i think form a business perspective they are rather set up small, this Gecko not being successful to get an answer.

i know they are involved with the BMW M-department, and might be on the phone with Bologna a little more often recently...

they built the C-pani in the vid in 5 weeks time - by that i mean disassembly of the bike, molds, parts, testing and putting it together... :eek:

translated from the vid: "the tank is not glued, it comes out of the mold in one piece. it is a specifically developed process to ensure complete 100% sealing." whatever that means.

Well I can tell you I installed Ti calliper bolts and could not feel a thing. I am sure Gecko has installed Ti calliper bolts and not felt anything either.

But thats not why I do it. I basically do it for the fun of playing around with the bike and a bit here and a bit there soon adds up. When I have gone as far as I can go then I will weigh the bike and see how light I was able to make it within my budget.

Will I feel any difference on the road ? No probably not. But it is fun to do. My 2 cents about weight reduction.

I agree that anyone who says they can feel the difference in the bike after fitting Ti sprocket nuts is using too much ICE.
 
Phl. My bad on the frame. Looked like a seam not a mold release. I get the tinkering thing. I guess I never stopped to think about enjoying the tinkering from a parts perspective. Never really thought about it. When I was doing the aerospace stuff you just used what was in the bins. Didn't really stop to think about the "cool" factor of fasteners. We used what was spec for the assembly. Weather Ti, Inconel, Stainless etc. Quality metric fasteners are not that common in the US. Even a lot of the Ti that is marketed to motorsports is questionable. I seriously do not even think about using anything but Ti for fasteners but I guess i never really thought a lot about the weight
 
What an absolute decadent and spoiled piece of 'look at me I'm rich' opulence with likely although unproven performance impact.
I like it I want one!

There is no joint in the middle. The appearance layer is cut down the middle to give the weave a symerric appearance. You can see a bit of the flash from the mold halves, but it isn't an adhesive bonded joint.

Ha ha yeah, a bit of super glue holding the two halves together! I know you're right and would expect the layers to overlap etc. It just doesn't give the appearance of a great finish and wouldn't give me an awful lot of confidence in the overall craftmanship.
