Having some trouble determining my chain tension since I adjusted all my suspension settings last season. I didn't realize they would even have an impact, however, if i measure per the picture, 49/51 mm takes you right into the exhaust pipes. I can measure the true movement of the chain by pulling it up but ducati only provides this distance method amount. The manual specifically says this is at factory settings, so does the workshop manual, any thoughts? My slack is probably fine but was just wondering why my distance is only about 29mm vs the 50 they recommend.

Here's what the 959 manual says

You think the 899 actually has a different chain tension than the 959, or is my manual wrong..this is strange

The geometry is the same between the 899 and 959 from what I understand, the only difference is engine output power. Your manual must be wrong.

Manual is right and I have the same 49-51 mm on the 899 swingarm sticker as well.
899 has also bigger rear sprocket than 959 which makes the distance a bit longer.

My 899 also says 49-51. Keep in mind it gets tighter when you sit on the bike (it won't hit the exhaust).

The geometry isn't the same on 899 vs 959. The 959 has the 4mm lower swingarm pivot.

This is were your going wrong....... you pull down with one finger at the tightest point of the chain to get that measurement.

You measure from the physical swingarm not the rubber part, as per every other chain thread.
