I've got a second pair of original Marchesini wheels of a Panigale S for street use. The previous owner painted the damages from stones with some shiny black varnish and a kind of toilet brush... and it looks .....

I like to powder coat the rims (gold) but want to remove the painting on a chemical way. This is no prob if the rims don't contain any magnesium. Does somebody know anything about the composition of the Marchesinis or has removed the paint chemical?

Tnx in advance

'S' rims are forged Aluminum, so no problem sandblasting them, but if you have any powder coaters in your area most likely one of them will have a dip tank with a solvent in it to clean parts rather than sandblast them, my local guy charged me a whopping $25 to dip my spare tank in his tank for a couple of days, paint is gone with little to no extra markings on it...

Also to answer your question 'Aircraft Paint Remover' does quite well if you get the non-aerosol stuff that comes in a gel form..

Thank you gents. Sodablasting seems to be very interesting. The people I've asked told me they can't remove the paint from aluminium rims in a chemical bath if the alloy contains magnesium, even if it's only a small part (perhaps only a prob for this company and the method they use).
To my knowledge (a little bit more than yesterday) nearly all forged aluminium rims contain some magnesium.

Any good powdercoater can prep the wheels themself. I just send mine the wheels without bearings and he does the rest. Maybe you should choose a different powdercoater?
