Hi guys,

i have a choice between the 2015 Panigale S (1299) or a previous generation 2014 Panigale R (demo). They are exactly same price.

Which one would you get?

Sorry i forgot to introduce myself.

I'll do that when i receive my Panigale with pictures.

Hi, welcome aboard.

Before you get bombarded with all the "are you going on the track or the road" drivel take the 1299 S. It's a newer bike, better equipment and a big step forwards.

There is nothing wrong with the 2014 R, I used to have one and now have the 2015 R. But the difference between this years models and last years is huge.

I love the R brand bikes, but believe me, go with the newer model S, it's vastly improved, more torque and horsepower than the 2014 R anyways......... almost a no brainer to be honest.

Thanks Mutt1979.

The sales guy said though, that the R would be more of an investment in long run, and i would already have taken the knock of depreciation etc.

I hardly go on the track, strictly ride weekends. So the whole track or street debacle doesn't phase me at all.

HP i think i'm not too phased as well, cause i know for a fact, i'm not going to even reach close to the potential of 195hp. lol

I had to make a quick decision, cause there were others after the R, so i've made the decision, and getting the R.

R versions do tend to hold resale value better, especially as collectors and hardcore Ducatisti take interest. Look at what you'd have to pay today for a 996R, or 999R. Both are comparatively "ancient" machines with a fraction of the power available to us today. But they're Ducati R models. And that still means something to the right people.

That's what exactly my thoughts.

More of an investment than a riding machine (as long as i don't drop it).

Also, with the 1299S, i still have to put Akro or term slip ons, or full exhaust, that will cost even more. Where the old R has all that in place already. So i won't even loose any more money!

Thanks guys, i think i made the right choice.

Will i still be able to post in this forum if i get the Panigale R?

The 14R is a wild savage bike and that's why I loved mine, the 15S should be a better/faster bike and have a bit better manners, have more torque and better electronics.
I'd go with the new 15S.

The R models do hold value better then the S models. I sold mine for more money than I bought it for. But I got an epic deal on it when I bought it.

I considered that choice also. Now I'm looking at the 15R. I asked the dealer what could I get for my 13R as a trade-in. I'll find out what the resale is!

I would go with the 1299S based on your comments. The 1199R is not as exclusive as the previous R bikes and it's not even numbered and there's already a new R so I think the resale value being up on the R is BS from your dealer. They just wanna get rid of the old tired ass model.

It depends on how many R's of 2013 were sold in your country.

Our 2013 R's were not so many. And there is a big difference between the 13R and 15R, the suspension etc.

I'm hoping for some people, the 13R with the semi-active suspension would be a big selling point.

Think the main selling point for me was that the 13R came standard with a full Termi exhaust.

Wrong D in my humble opinion. 1299 has newer technology. The DWC and DQS downshift alone would be the decider for me. The salesman just wanter to get rid of old stock so gave you some good old high pressure sales .........

I read up on the 13R and 15R.

IMO, yes the tech is much more on the 15R, I wouldn't mind having those aids.

But i prefer the semi-active suspension, i hate fiddling around with the suspension, cause i don't know how to begin with.

But what i like about this deal, is that i'm paying same price as a 1299S, but i get full termi's and i still have a year of DRP, and regardless of it's not numbered or not. It is still an "R".

Sales guy pitched both to me, been with him since 2012 with my first 848evo, so he knows he can't strong-arm me into anything.

I don't think i'll regret it, as the 13R i'm buying is only 177km on the clock. Practically brand new!

The 13-14R does not have semi-active suspension. The 1299S is the first Ducati superbike with semi-active suspension, and it's only event based. Not semi-active like the skyhook, BMW or KTM systems.
The 13-14R has electronically adjustable suspension.

Is a wild fun bike though and you'll love it.

I own the 1299 and 13 R . The 1299 feels more sedate which is not a bad thing for the road the R motor feels like it revs quicker and accelerates harder .
Power wise not much in it the R is a beast .
Numbered triples have never meant anything to me the 1098 R never had them other than in the U.S.
The down shift QS is nice but I would not buy a bike because it has one . My R bike is more special to me I think you made a great choice .
Enjoy your bike .

So is it a 13R or a 14R?

14R and your choice would be considered difficult, perhaps.

13R vs the 2015 1299S for the same price would be a win for the newer bike hands down.
