Has anybody had to change their clutch or clutch plates? I'm asking the high mileage guys....or just in general how many miles are expected out of a clutch?

I had my slave cylinder replaced twice for letting air in the system I have also had my entire clutch replaced for "excessive wear". No reason for the wear was gj en, the only comment from the mechanic was that it was "not related to rider use"

Did the replacement of your clutch slave cure the air problem??? I have it constantly...I have to bleed after every 200 miles now...

Yes, the second time the slave was replaced it fixed the issue - so far so good at 1,000 miles.

I hope I don't have to do it twice..as you did though... I might just do an aftermarket slave...

Did they replace the clutch and the slave under warranty? Or did you come out of pocket? Second, I'm not sure if its my clutch or not but I have noticed a loss in performance. So what were your symptoms that let you know something was wrong with the clutch?

Yes; everything was replaced under warranty. The failure of the slave is a known problem.
Like you, I was bleeding the thing every two to five hundred miles.
You will notice a change in the engagement point of the clutch, a difficulty shifting from 1st or 2nd into N, and then poor shifting in general.

First time my clutch "failed" was around 7,000km. After that, the periods between bleeds become shorter and shorter. Last time I took out the slave cylinder I found brake fluid inside. I think the problem is the slave cylinder seal and it gets worse and worse with temperature and use. Not trying to be pessimistic, but replacing the salve with an OEM one, it will just be a matter of time before it fails again.

I ordered the OBERON slave and will install it this weekend. I'll post the results in a few months time.

What about acceleration? Did you notice the bike being slower when on the throttle?

I dont'...Clutch doesn't slip...just doesn't engage well ...has no problem disengaging...

Your talking about clutch slave issues right, STW? Im asking him about when he had to replace his entire clutch from abnormal wear....did he notice acceleration loss?

The entire clutch was replaced due to "abnormal wear" about the 5,000 mile mark. I did not notice any issues with the clutch (other than the failure of the slave). The shop was instructed by DNA to do a tear down of the bike because I was having a bunch of issues. I was quite surprised when they informed me what they had did since the only clutch issues I had noted was with air in the lines. Work done by Donelson Cycle in St. Louis, MO - a great dealer and this was done under warranty.

After 1,318km and a liitle bit less than 2 months of replacing the OEM slave cylinder with an OBERON, my clutch "failed" again. I am using EBC DOT 4 fluid.

Bleeding "solves" the problem. I guess the problem is not the OEM slave.

I got my entire clutch, housing, bearings replaced under warranty from Motoeuropa. One of the rings just came apart, and burned up everything else because I didn't stop soon enough.

Most likely the master cylinder . These have been a issue way back to the first 1098's with bleed issues .

Clutch Plates...no not yet...I have 12,475kms...did 4 trackdays and joined three races this year...

Clutch fluid bleeding ...Yes!!... Did it 3x to replace the dark fluid in the hydraulic line and to get better feel... same with the brake Fluid as well.

Nothing else!
