I figured I’d post this here and see if someone can make some sense of this for me. I’m replacing the lower triples on my 1299 as the steering stops were busted off. Found a nice clean set, both have the same part numbers stamped on them, but as you can see in picture one, the neck is longer before you get to the threads compared to the one I took off in picture two. I was wondering why I couldn’t tighten the steering stem nut, and figured out cuz it’s bottoming out way earlier. I’ll have to take the triple off and cut them down I guess, but I’m just confused why one would be longer if they have the same part numbers on them.

Thank you,
Greg

Did you find the replacement by the part number in the casting, parts manual or bike year & model? Just a guess, but I think it's likely the same triple from the 1199 to the V4 and the number cast into it would be the same. The length of the stem could be different because they are meant to be installed in different frames, ie 1199/1299 vs V4.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Part number is on the casting. The gentleman I bought it off of said it was off a Panigale. But like you mentioned it must of been off a v4 perhaps.

I’ll cut off 1/3 of an inch and it should work.

Thanks for the input.

i'm digging into old texts...did you buy that lower off me Greg? if i have the right guy here, it was from a 1199...

Hey, no I bought it from another forum member on here. I should have asked specifically what bike it came off of. I’m thinking a V4. But like I said I’ll just shorten it.

I have my top clamp off as I ordered an aftermarket one. The steering stem height looks right for the V4. Easy fix though.
