coolant blowout!

So they come back with me saying the thermostat shat itself and bursted.
I hope my head and the aliminium around the head isn't soft from the short ride I had to do with the temp hot. Any thoughts on this? Can the head and aliminium change after that ? And if so would it be easily noticable ? Btw the thermostat is getting done under warrenty obviously

Yes, it can soften, but symptoms should be pretty much evident.
Any sort of leaks, for example, due to gaskets not been able to do their job anymore, screws getting lose due to loss of thread grip, valve seats getting lose, etc...
Once you put your bike back to service, take it for a run, remove the fairings, and check everything in there.
Next time, do not run your bike with engine lacking of cooling ;)

The shop said they will check for any leaks once the new thermostat is in and coolant is in and get the bike hot and see if it's okay. What's worst scenario if the aliminium has gone soft or heads wrecked? Couldn't a different shape head cause the block to crack? Or is this over reacting...

Over-reacting IMHO. You would have to run the engine for significantly longer and harder to do any real lasting damage. 5 mins would likely cause more issues at weaker points, such as at a hose connection, the radiator, a seal or gasket. Most likely any thermal extremes to the head would have manifested themselves by way of oil in the coolant or a lack of power indicating a possible blown head gasket. If your water is not emulsified and the engine oil is clean, then it's likely your engine is fine. GO for a ride and monitor the temperature, when you return home, let it idle and check the temperature at which the fan kicks in, which you can check is running by looking under the bike up into the black shroud/exhaust vent that lead towards the lower radiator. You will see the impeller turning. The fan should start to bring the temperature down. It has hysteresis built in, so it will stop once the temperature is a fixed number of degrees below its target value (usually around 3-4 degrees Celsius). As the coolant temperature rises again, the fan should re-start. If you observe it cycle at least twice then, leave the ignition ON and use the kill switch to stop the engine, the fan should continue to run. Again observe the temperature and it should cut out once the engine coolant temperature drops at the same temperature point. If all is fine, switch off the ignition, then relax and enjoy the bike. Hope this helps

I work in the Aerospace industry, and you can be sure boiling coolant will not affect your aluminum heads. Chances are your head gaskets are OK as well, once you have the thermostat replaced have the dealer bring the bike to a temp (102c) where the fans usually come on, and visually check for head gasket leaks whilst the fairings are still off (easier to see)

Over reacting. It'll be fine. A decent Ducati tech knows what to look for.

It's good to be cautious and mindful. But my customers that over react to an engines foibles tend to do further damage. "Cutting a patients heart open to see if it's ok." and all that.

It's going to take a lot to hurt the heads on this bike.

Worst case senerio, get a whole engine:

So pretty much if there is anything wrong with it it will show straight away? Ie: smoke, leak etc
