Had my coolant expelled all over the engine and back wheel. It made for a HAIRY down-shift into third while approaching turn 7 at the local track day event. The first indication that something was wrong was when my rear wheel tried to pass my front wheel, about half-way through the second lap of the day.
I inspected the bike immediately in the pits and recreated the event by starting the engine and waiting for it to warm. It appears that once the bike warms up, the fluid leaks from an area between the two cylinders, under the air box. I could not get in there very well to have a look, but that is my initial thinking with respect to locating the general problem. Based on how the bike shows no symptoms when cool, I suspect that it is linked to coolant flow once the thermostat gets things pumping.
Any thoughts from those knowing more about the 1199 mechanicals than me?
On the up-side, my friend lent me his KTM 390 Duke to ride for the rest of the tack weekend. I had so much fun; it was all about keeping corner speed and momentum. Lots of fun.
