Crankcase Oil Leak, Warranty Dept Unresponsive

So I noticed a stripe of oil on my exhaust can and luckily my bike hadn't caught on fire so I took it into the dealership to get it checked out. They said the oil was coming from the crankcase and that they'd file a warranty claim with Ducati NA.

2 weeks later and no response whatsoever from Ducati. Has anyone else had problems with getting Ducati to respond to warranty claims? Anyone else had any major oil leaks as of yet (other than the guy whose 1199 caught on fire)?

I'm rather irritated by this considering that I use the bike to get to work faster (15 minutes via HOV vs 45 minutes by metro). Not to mention that the bike only has 1900 freaking miles on it.

I am still waiting for a new shock (2 weeks). I know the system was down for at least a week being upgraded, that processes the order.

Took my importer 5wks to clear some warranty exhaust and body panel claims.

Blew the cartridges in my Marzocchi forks 3 times. They got me turned around within a week every time. The 3rd time I ended up with brand new forks.

Nothing but good things to say here.....

how many miles u guys have....seems like everybody with lower mileage is having issues hmmmm

Had new forks fitted to my base abs, lost all rebound damping, no visible leaks, put a brand new set on straight away.
Have also had a set of standard exhaust silencers replaced under warranty due to a loose / defective alum heat shield.
5100 miles now.

Woods Abergele Ducati (North Wales) been brilliant right from pre purchase, cannot fault them.

I JUST had the same thing happen to me, after my 3rd track day. I have around 1300 miles on my S ABS. Took it to two different service departments, they both found the same thing:

The fluid return hose from the airbox to the crank case was split, and the clamp broken. They put a make-shift clamp on it to keep it from leaking. Seems to be working fine now. They told me this has been a common issue with the Pani's.

I think this should be a recall or TSB. The leak was pretty substantial and the heat from the exhaust cans combined with dripping hot oil from the crank case directly above the exhaust could easily cause a fire.

Hope this info helps.

So I finally got a call back today. Apparently there was some miscommunication or an outright .... up between my dealership (Coleman Powersports) and Ducati NA. When the message I left got to the district service manager he got on the phone and sorted things out and I'm getting a new engine sent from Borgo Panigale on Friday hopefully. When it'll actually be installed in the bike is another story. Hopefully the end of this story will restore my faith in the marinara missile.

I wish I had just called Ducati NA earlier but I didn't want to jump the gun. Lesson learned.

One plus is that the district service manager said they'll be reflashing the ECU to fix the mid-range flat spot and some of the uneven partial throttle power delivery. Hopefully this will eliminate that huge hole in the powerband at aroun 4k rpms.

I suspected this was a dealer--and not a warranty--issue. I took mine in today for a relatively minor issue (exhaust covers are loose) and got a call a few hours later indicating that the entire exhaust would be replaced under warranty. Work should be completed in the next few days, too.

Yeah if I had to make a bet, I'd bet that the dealership dropped the ball. The tech at my dealership is excellent but who knows what miscommunication happened in the service dept, especially since it sounded like more than one person was involved in the whole thing.

I asked the area service manager if there was any way i could get hooked up with a loaner/demo bike in the meantime but I'm not too hopeful on that one.

I recently had a problem with an out of the box defective DDA+ GPS unit. Dealer did the last wave of recalls and installed the unit on my Tricolore. The unit didn't work and after working on it for a few days the dealer turned in the warranty claim. It took over 3 weeks for the replacement unit to arrive. Before it arrived I contacted Ducati USA to find out why the replacement was taking so long and they indicated that the dealer had taken 10 days to place the order and that Ducati USA from receipt of the order would take 2 weeks for the replacement to arrive. I asked to Ducati USA to reconcile the difference between their story and the dealer's story. Interestingly enough they eventually came back and said they could not tell why it took so long, and they gave me a $200 credit to use at any AD in compensation for the delay.

I don't think dealers are necessarily the problem with delays in warranty action. In my case both Ducati USA followed up with both phone calls and emails about the issue and Ducati USA followed up even after I ceased to pursue resolution. I think Ducati is trying very hard to improve the experience their customers have with their product and product support.

Do you guys have a phone number to call Ducati NA? My bike is in the shop for an oil leak and the dealership has no idea why its leaking. They said they created a warranty claim but I have yet to hear anything back from them and its been over a week now.

I'm not positive, but I think a phone number for DNA is listed in the warranty book or owners manual.

EDIT: it's in the owners handbook:

Clocks fogging up all the time, called M&S Newcastle and got a positive ok to get them replaced almost immediately. I suggest your dealer might not really be on the ball ...:(

Dealer called me yesterday and said they are getting a new engine for me next week. Said its a small hole in the engine where oil is coming from.. I'm pissed off. Only 700 miles on the bike and after the first service the bike starts leaking oil.. What happened at the first service that made this happen?
I just want a new bike now or them to give me my money back and I'll get a GSXR 1000 like I was going to do in the first place.

Is this Moto? I'm sure they will do what Ducati allows, I think they are top notch, but only been dealing with them for a few months.

Yes its at Moto.. I don't blame Moto the dealer, they are some stand up guys. I blame Ducati as a whole. This sucks A$$

How does a "small hole" appear in an engine? Foreign object in the cast?

Moto didn't have an answer.. All I got was a call saying a new engine is on its way. Its nice today and supposed to be nicer the rest of the weekend so I'm missing out on riding this weekend.

I have had a rear shock on order for weeks, backordered now. If you think about it, the new stuff will go on the production lines, it might be awhile for us. They may accidently drop a Ti rod in your engine from the R :D
