From what I have read from a lot of you I have heard many great things about the 1199. I am still going to wait a week or two to see if my base comes in. However, one thing I am noticing on these forums is all the issues riders are discovering. I.E. Hard starting, Clutch issues, heat from exhaust (too painful), etc. A lot of riders have been saying that the bike is not very good out on the street. If this be the case I may reconsider and go back to buying an 1198SP or 1198S Corse. I am moving up to the 1199 from a 2010 Ducati 848. I loved the midrange and the feel of the torque. How does this bike compare vs the 1198 out on the streets? I have yet to take the bike out on the racetrack, but I would like to start riding track this year. What would be your advice for those who own an 1199 already and have experienced all the bike has to give? Is it that much better than an 1198? Like I said, I love to FEEL the torque, does this bike still have it? Any info would be appreciated.

I traded my 1198S for the Pani, and I have to say that, for me, the Pani is LOADS easier in traffic than the 1198 was. It is a lot lighter, a lot more agile, and the fuelling/throttle is much better (as long as you aren't in race mode; I do have the Termi cans with the up-map). I've not had any issues with starting or clutch (yet - but I haven't done as many miles as some of the guys).

The leg heat is an issue. The heat dissipates quickly once you get back up to speed and by splaying your legs you can get some relief in slow-moving traffic. Again, IMO this is no worse than the 1198S was - the under-seat heat was pretty toasty in hot weather/traffic situations.

The bike isn't a commuter bike, but that's not to say it isn't any good on the street. And I think that the 1198 is inferior on the street to the 1199.

Yeah. Just having second thoughts on whether this is a good decision or not. Still no word and the bike was supposed to come in sometime this week. Obviously I dont have a VIN so who knows when it gets here. I also found a 2011, 1198SP that has an open performance clutch, Termi exhaust, and a couple of other goodies for $17,500. Plus Ducati right now is having discounts on previous models. So I might be able to buy it for around $16,000-$16,500. Pretty good deal for an SP. That model with out the extras has a retail value of $17,300. Just doin some thinking. Is the 1199 worth every penny?

I did the same thing. I went from the 848 to the 1199S. And I can say it is well worth it. I'm actually on my way to pick my bike up from my dealer, I just had the clutch issue at around 1600 miles. The dealer told me which may or may not be correct that the slave cylinder in a lot of the us bikes have been over torqued during production and by removing and correctly torquing the bolts that would fix the issue. The service is outstanding which is the reason I chose to stay with Ducati. But overall for me. The torque and power is amazing. I see lots of videos that make the bike look slow but personally it depends on the level of rider and which engine setting you have it on. This bike will pick the front end up in the first three gears but it's manageable. I love how light it feels. It's a lot like the 848 but slimmer so to me it's easier entering corners or switching direction quickly. The wait does suck but the second you get on your 1199 it will have been worth the wait. Hopes this helps answer some of your questions

Just when I was giving up hope and looking into other options... My dealer called me this morning, "I have a VIN # for you!" Should be here in about 2-3 days! :D Hope he is right! I want to do some major riding this weekend.

well, she showed up yesterday and I didnt have a VIN prior to that...infact I still dont even have the title.

Bike showed up and my dealer was generous enough to get in to service and ready for me...they actually stayed an hour late for me and let me take bke without the title.

Now im at work daydreaming about getting off....getting off work that is ;-) to go ride her

Worth the wait guys, trust me..my dealer got the worst of me lol

Dude, spending this much money on a bike is never sensible.

If you want sensible, go check out a used suzi 500

Honestly surprised by people that get so challenged by delivery delays. Sorry

Yeah but there is no doubt about it... Ducati needs a better tracking system so that people know and can plan when they get their bikes. We know that Ducati has this information, but for some reason doesnt want to share it with us. I know in the military If I put a part on order I could see exactly where and when it checks in to each point in the process, why cant they do the same with these? They could spend a few pennies to put on an electronic tracking tag or send the dealer the tracking number for the shipment, its not that hard. I think its kinda ...... that they leave people out to dry and dangle the carrot from a string just far enough in their face that they will never catch it and are powerless to change the game. I think they should just tag them or forward the tracking numbers and dates of arrival to each dealer as soon as they hit port. But thats just my opinion. Im sure almost every one on this forum would agree that there needs to be a change. Maybe if we blow-up Ducati's comment form on the main site demanding tracking orders, we may get some results.

To the people bitching about having to "wait" for a $20K+ Italian scooter, I say this...

Get over yourself... You have gone your whole life without a damn 1199 Panigale and you can go a few more weeks without one. It's not the end of the world. You don't need better information, tracking systems, nothing!!! It's all apart of the marketing plan Ducati has created for this motorcycle and designed to keep demand high. Just go on about your life the same way you have forever.. without a damn 1199 Panigale! If you gave them a deposit, they will call you when they have it ready. Period.

If you don't like the service you get from Ducati, go buy something else. It's no different dealing with Ducati than any other Italian company.

I guess I've been dealing with them forever and know what to expect beforehand... I gave them a deposit back long, long ago too.. It's no big deal.

There... I've been wanting to say that for a while.

+1 I saw the Tri yesterday and it made me want mine yesterday, that said I am glad that mine is not here as parts that I want are not ready yet and it's good to sit back and see the little problems that people are having.
It's nice to be #1 getting the bike, but being last also has it's benifits.....Patients is a virtue sometimes.

In comes the angry Texan. Ducati's delivery system is a complete fail. I paid for the bike. I should now when, where and how it is going to be delivered. "Period."

You didn't "pay" for anthing... you reserved a spot in line for a motorcycle.. that is it.

If you are led to believe you were to be expecting any sort of time frame, I can assure you it is the fault of the dealer you are talking to.

If you have a problem with waiting, a Ducati is not the motorcycle for you.

I guess after 10+ years of dealing with them, I have it figured out.

Had many sleepless nights mulling over the issue myself, especially since I had to sell a limited 1198edition Corse first. Thank goodness for the dude in LA who paid high dollar for it!
Had my Tri Colore for 3 weeks now and must admit that it was all well worth the wait and sale! Totally different feel which is a perfect fit. If any of you are looking for any panigale whatsoever pm me for a hook up with my personal friend and dealer, im not here to advertise but will help anyone who has the itch to get on with their decision asap! Btw im on east coast, but drove from Oklahoma to Virginia for the Corse so travel plans will be required.
Semper Fidelis!

Yeah, who would want information? What a ....... to say you shouldn't want to know.

I prefer the way Amazon.com does business. You place your order, you get email confirmation. Your item ships, you get email confirmation. You want more info, you login and get the status. Amazon sells hundrends of millions of items yearly. If they can do it for every item, surely Ducati can do it with a few thousand bikes.

And to those who think it's ok, just because you have low expectations doesn't mean the rest of us have to.

I have my bike, but it would sure have been nice to have more notice of its arrival to allow me to plan for the pickup.

My dealer was great he gave me the info he had. Week of May 14th, then later info said week of May 20th. I got an email Friday May 25th that the bike arrived that morning. I ran around all crazy trying to get work done and get through the 2 hour drive to the dealer before 6 PM to get the bike, all on Memorial day weekend with the traffic. More information would have made planning easier.

Really? How bout the $1700 we pay for tax, title, registration and SHIPPING. You're so smart, you must know everything yoda.

Anyone who has spent any amount of time in Italy knows this is just how they do things. Its a cultural thing as much as anything else. Do I like it? hell no. Am I surprised? Not at all.

Only did a week long moto trip to Italy and would have to agree with you.
It will be interesting to see how the Germans will perform going forward.

DUCATI HAS .... CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Ducati North America has equally .... customer service.
Ducati dealers try their best to meet customers' expectations of the brand and the buying experience and are constantly frustrated by Ducati. When I took the initiative (because the dealer was getting no where with them) and reached out to Ducati NA to try and get some information so that I could take time off work (which I must plan), book my business travel around delivery, etc., Ducati NA ignored me yet actually took the time to chew out my dealer! ...... idiots.
I have respect for Ducati motorcycle designers, builders, etc. at the factory, and their marketing department certainly know their stuff and how to manage a brand. And, I have respect for the dealers. However, I have NO respect for the rest of the company that is involved in the distribution, customer service, etc. They are actually eroding the brand and my emotional connection with it.
If their business goal is to build a lifestyle brand around the product like Harley has done (and I think that may be their objective), then they have a lot of work ahead of them.

So yes; I can wait. My life will be just fine. It's just a stupid motorcycle, and really not that important; but is that how they want me to feel, really? Because if it is, then somebody else is spending an awful lot of money trying to convince me otherwise, and perhaps the people ....... up the brand on one end of the value chain should tell the others at the other end of the value chain not to bother.
Sure; it's not a life or death issue, etc., but when you have one part of the corporation amping up the customer and their expectations, positioning both the bike, the brand and their customer as "special" in one way or another, and another part of the company bending that same customer over a sink and eroding those expectations... Well, that's just bad business and not aligned with the brand experience that they want to develop.

Just saying...
