This guys in moto3, has 1 win and 6 podiums in 114 starts and he’s replacing VR in the premier class. Nuts

It’s my understanding that he is mainly in MotoGP due to a contractual obligation. Don’t quote me, but I think he signed an agreement with Yamaha a year or so ago that guaranteed him a ride. Thereafter, Petronas Yamaha quit Moto3 and Moto2. Consequently, the only seat available with Yamaha was in MotoGP.

He’s actually a pretty good rider despite his poor moto3 results. His style (“dive bomb Binder”) may fit MotoGP better than Moto3.

We’ll there’s no doubt he’s a good rider. At that level they are all exceptional. That aside, the pecking order is a bit weird regardless of contracts. If he has a contact with Yamaha Corp, put him in motoamerica, move Jake to WSBK and Toprak to GP. All in the Yamaha family. I just don’t see regardless of a contract moving a guy to the top class when there are certainly more qualified riders.

once again only your opinion. I think he will be a star and obviously people more qualified then you are making the decision and paying him

It’s my impression that just like in F1, there’s plenty of back room dealing, dark money, and nepotism in MotoGP.

There’s no telling who owes who a favor, or who spent time on a casting couch or paid someone to secure a ride. And as has been noted - they’re all accomplished riders, so the hierarchy is ambiguous and an argument can be made to justify advancing whoever they want.

When brother Brad won a race he became the next big thing, since then...... crickets

MotoGP is so competitive that I cannot see DB doing much more than filling the grid and fluking a podium in the wet. Look at the front group; Quartz, Pecco, Mir, Marquez, Zarco even Miller and you really think DB is going to make an impression? You dont step off a moped onto a MotoGP bike and suddenly become a winner. DB will be gone from MotoGP faster than Savadori who is actually a pretty decent rider.

Success in MotoGP is so fickle, look at Mav; undeniably the one of the fastest riders but hes nowhere near a title at the moment or probably ever. Im not for or against Binder but its just a weird choice that seems a legal situation rather than performance based

mid it’s anything at all like Formula 1 there are other considerations, like the sponsorships that the individual rider brings to the team, which happens in F1 a lot.

In fact one of the BIGGEST considerations on who gets a seat in F1 is how much money the driver brings with them to the team.

LOL well in this particular case, he’s taking VR spot so I’m guessing bringing money and a fan base to the team is “not” a consideration in this particular decision.

When you put it that way its seems even more ridiculous, look at Fabio he was lightning fast as a kid then lost it in Moto 3 after an accident and then in Moto 2 he came back briefly but that raw talent was always there. With some good management he's now the MotoGP champ, DB does not appear to have that ability hidden away. Sure he is a world class rider but there are far better options for VR's seat.

Anyway great day for Yamaha and Honda, not so great for Ducati but it seems they picked the wrong tire.

No spoiler.

I just finished the moto3 Portugal race……. Dive bomb Binder lived up to his name again at the expense of another important rider.

"Acosta crowned champion as Binder wipes out Foggia" Hope Dive Bomb enjoys that well deserved GP ride.

They wanted to extend the 'brother's theme' after VR takes exit. ;P
Moto3's roller derby generation right into GP. Can't wait. I hope they hose them off or something before they get to top of the game.

PS. Happy for Miller today & Peco - wow, again. Bummer for Oliveira, .... fate at the home track.

Two races in and baby Binder has more points than all of the other rookies combined!

As shocking as that sounds, it’s an extremely reckless and unreliable statistic because he got those points in a wet weather race. And, again, we are only two races into the season. I just couldn’t help myself.
