Hello Panigalists,

I am installing dash cam and it says to hook it up to battery but also third yellow wire to 12V ACC port which is controlled by key ignition. Does anyone know where it is located and how does it look like?

Probably a noob question šŸ‘ but I have recently started working on my bike myself and don't really know too much except the very basics. So go easy šŸ˜¬

Thank you tank you.

Ps: 2012 1199S.

The wiring diagram is at the end of the owners manual.

There is a switched +12V wire at the ignition's 6-pin plug.

The red and yellow wire should be +12V switched. Your dash cam is drawing all of its power from the battery connection. The switched +12V is just to turn it off and on so there shouldn't be a load problem. But, I would not attempt this without a multimeter, you need to be able to check and verify.

Just connect to anything that comes on with the key. I wire my dash cams to my tail light wire since it comes on with the key and can handle the extra current load (and is usually near where I mount the dash cam box). I use a multimeter to verify.

There's a blank terminal on the base for a GPS under the black inner cover on the left side of the nose fairing. I used that for a garage remote by getting a connector and clipping off the crimped blank

And how do I connect? The wire off dash cam is just a plain wire with end and sone middle portion naked. The tail light wire I expose it and join both naked wires together by hand and use electrical tape or something like that? And use multimeter on which wire and what reading should it give?

Noob questions? I am not very mechanically inclined and itā€™s all confusing to me unless explained like you do to a kid.

There is a quick connect plug hanging out from the battery. I ordered a usb plug with similar plug compatibility. So I had to just simply plug it in and mount the usb on the handle and use usb cable to power dash cam. Donā€™t even have to take fairing off to get to battery neither no wiring to any fuse involved. This was my simplest solution but dash cam guys forgot to send the usb cable which they were supposed to and now I will have to go their route and I cannot find a video with clear instructions. Probably is not that complicated once I know what exactly to do.

You verify the current in the tail light wire can be handled by the dash cam?

The spare terminal on the left side is a very simple solution.....

It's a blanked set of wires so you can add whatever connector you need. When you remove the inner black cover of the front fairing there's a small black box fixed to the fairing and the wires are near it

I wire in parallel, not series. Current levels are independent per device. Total current for the main fuse is the only concern (and is not a problem in this setup).

I made my own connector for the tail light since I added a pattern flash module. However, the concept is the same. My 2021 V2 has a yellow wire for the tail light (not brake light), which gives you the 12v with the key on that you need for the dash cam and is near where you will probably mount the main box. You cut the yellow wire and splice in the dash cam wire (connecting all three wires - original wire you cut in two and then the dash cam wire). You can twist and tape them, solder them, or use an electrical twist cap to connect the wires. You may want to have a friend who is familiar with basic low voltage work help you.
