Is nearly $2k in fees for a street fighter reasonable? I probably paid something around that in 22 for my pani… but seems like a different time.

Dealer is in Texas

When I was shopping nationwide for a bike around COVID times I found that a lot of dealers will list a low price and have high fees or vice versa. The out the door price is really all that matters.

tell them pound sand. Its 2023 with a garbage economy and demand is half what it was a year ago. Dealer by me has a ktm 450 "on sale" msrp $11,490 marked down to $7,799 with factory rebates. freight, setup and doc fee was $2K. I laughed at the salesman and walked out. over 20% of the vehicle price in ........ line items? Yea no.... freight might cost the dealer $400, setup is five minutes to uncrate and install the bars, doc fee is always a scam. I will never again pay ........ fees to these laughable powersports dealers. I buy a $20K honda or a $100K GMC and the dealer unwraps and full details the vehicle and they dont tack on any "setup fees."

In my opinion, the answer is a vociferous, "hell no."

I was going to buy a new Hypermotard SP at a Houston-based dealership, and when I got there, they basically increased the price 11% from MSRP with "assembly fees," and other horsesh*t. So I told them forget it. He said he could bring it down some, and I said I'm not paying $.01 over MSRP. So no bike for me.

I mean, good or them if they can sell them for that much. But I just didn't like how they advertised a price online, then when I got there, the "real" price was 11% higher. I just find this deceptive and reject any of it out of righteous indignation.

Keep shopping around. It's the end of the year, and they'll be more willing to move the bikes. Go on Cycletrader, find the cheapest bike, tell them no fees, and just eat the $600-700 to ship it. That's the way to go. There's some dealership out there selling below MSRP right now for whatever it is you're looking at.

Fortnine did a really good video on how motorcycle pricing works.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much you're willing to pay. Don't be hungry to buy.

I think middle aged guys w expendable income have changed the market for certain cars and bikes. The local dealer I walked into recently had no new PV4S, SFV4S or MTS V4 PPs - had a couple of blinged out low mile used PV4s and one blinged out used MTS V4 PP. Two of the new collector bikes were sitting there (they had already been purchased). Multiple superleggeras and HP4 Races in the back that have been there for months on consignment.

Then they had a bunch of new bikes that nobody wants (which is pretty much what the salesman said). Scramblers, non-PP MTS, an xDiavel (no Diavel v4s left)...

Shipping comes with its own set of issues that I don't have the time or inclination to deal with. It's just simpler to pay a freight fee etc (yes, I'm part of the problem).

Another option is to just buy one of the blinged out bikes off consignment once reality hits.

Totally get it. Definitely a tight market.

I've probably purchased, and had shipped, three bikes from long-distance and have only had good experiences, but I hear you.

Not sure when you went, but I think they still have the bike you were looking at and a bunch of bikes were marked down $1000, so you might come out ok on the fees.
