I'm new here, and recently upgraded to an 1199. Taking a look at my worn gear, I've decided that what was marginal while commuting on my beat 749 just isn't going to cut it it on a nice shiny and much faster 1199. Obviously gear opinions are like those holes we sit on, everybody's got one, but I'm looking for something a little different. Hoping I can get a few recommendations for alternative brands or deals that have been found. Closeouts, lesser known but high quality brands etc. I'm just not familiar enough with higher end brands or online stores to know what's a good deal and what's not. My HJC carbon helmets showing its age, and It's time for a safer jacket and gloves to match the bikes performance. I'm not a fan of flashy boy racer rolling advertising. Basically don't want to look like a ducati fan boy walking out of the dealership, and the local dealer turned me off with how hard they pushed their new arrai and Dainese showroom.

Good luck. I scored a closeout Dainese 1-piece for $840 from sportbiketrackgear.com. Retails for $1200. There's a decent selection of closeout stuff on there (including jackets and helmets) if you know your sizes. I'll never be turned off from Dainese as they have saved my ... and skin more than once but I get not everybody wants the popular stuff.

I have a top of the line arai corsair v Nicky Hayden replica in size med that was never ridden in for 350 in the classified section.

the Dainese and Arai gear that your dealer pushed you towards is really top of the line, you can't really go wrong with it but you can probably get it cheaper through an online vendor but with that you can't try it on and if something goes wrong it's nice to be able to bring it back to the store you bought it from.

If you ride a lot it might be worth looking into an Aerostitch Transit Suit. That's been both my daily and sometimes track wear for the past 5 years.

I've crash tested it and it is very tough and effective.

Not flashy but it looks good in an understated way (black leather) and you won't find a more functional set of gear.

Aerostitch has stopped making the Transit Suit but they are still selling them until they run out of stock.
