Does anybody know what the Electronic Suspension defaults to in the event of a failure?

On the connector that goes in the top of my right fork leg, the little snap/clip thing is broken (the little thing that pops into place on all of the electrical connectors to lock them in place).

It will still plug in fine and seems to stay in place. But my question is, what if it doesn't?

It doesn't do some silly .... like close or open all the needles completely by default does it?

I would assume it would just stop being Dynamic and maintain the setting at the time of the "failure", but I wont be confidence racing with it in Dynamic until I know for sure.

If it does you will get a big read fault code on the dash so you will know if it's a issue .

Thanks, that is a good idea. I will pass that on.

I assumed it would throw a code, I was just wondering what physical changes it will make (if any). Like, if something happens to the DES as I am approaching the braking zone at 180mph...what can I expect?

It won't work I guess . Electronic suspension belongs only on street bikes

Yeah, I know it wont work. I just want to know if there is some automatic default setting. Like, if it loses signal/communications, it automatically closes the needles or opens them.

Or if it just stays wherever it is set at when the failure occurs.

I get what you are saying, but some people disagree. As a matter of fact, when Rutter tested the 1299S his saw a drastic difference in braking performance with the DES in Dynamic (versus his braking performance on the 1199R). His braking distance was measurably shorter.

And IIRC, his corner exits were better also.

He actually went faster with the DES activated. I have heard similar results from guys that have tried it in the US at some tracks.

If there is a possibility I could have similar results, then it is worth a try.

My suspension school with Dave Moss he loved it as well . Mine is just a personal opinion . Sorry for negativity I hope it works well for you .

No worries. :)

At the end of the day, all that matters is winning. I at least have to try it. If it is an improvement, I will use it. If not, I will turn it off and not think twice about it.

BTW - didn't you recently race on yours? How was it? How did it compare to your 1199R?

Bought my 1199S used and one of those clips was broken too. One track day and 5,000 spirited street miles later and it has stayed put.

Set a PB on the 1299 finished second in all my races . Got within 4 seconds of the lap record . I have been working on my fitness and really like the Mupo set up the bike is perfect .
I like this bike it's easy to ride . I worked on the rear suspension a bit and fiddled with DWC to get it right had a few issues on practice day with keeping the front end down but got it sorted and qualified well .

That is excellent, nice work. :)

My guess is that it will stay wherever it was set before the failure. The needle moves when the stepper motor rotates, with no energy the stepper will not rotate and it should be able to hold the shaft position.

I got confirmation yesterday that is exactly what happens. It just stays wherever it is.

Thanks

So just for understandings sake, does that mean that the whole system then remains locked or just the one fork with the cable break?
As one fork is compression and one is rebound, if the rest of the system carries on in "Dynamic", then its possible you could end up with quite an offset between the two, depending upon where in the loading cycle one fork becomes "fixed" after failure.

If it registers an error with one fork both forks stayed locked in the last setting but the shock will continue to respond. Sorry I didn't relay that yesterday Chris.
