I just took my possession of my 1199S on friday and have trolling the threads to see what changes anyone has made to their DES, to not much luck.

So if anyone can help..?

Have got the rear in 'P' but still find it quite firm. I'm 95kg/210lbs and would love to hear any recommendations on a typcial street setup. Our roads here in NZ aren't full of potholes but aren't exactly smooth either.

Would love to hear your suggestions

Hamish have you measured up the bike regarding how much sag you have? This really needs to be checked first. I did it today and my sag measurements are way off the accepted norm. I have 10mm sag on the front forks and 16mm at shock. Ridiculously stiff and I feel the bikes trying to kill me,throwing me out the saddle, pulverising my back and palms but still managing to put a huge grin on my face haha. I love it,its an alien psycho of a bike. I"ll let you know how it turns out shortly. Gonna back everything off tomorrow. BTW i"m still running mine in,set in sport mode but my DES settings are set softly softly as in wet mode. That has improved things a bit,so you can imagine it was even worse than described above. Dont forget your tyre pressures too, mine were over inflated when I took delivery by 6lb in both.

Will have to go in and get the numbers off the setup I had done for me by a Ducati susp guy. Rides real smooth !

Cool mate, that would be great. I'm a novice when it comes to suspension setup...

I haven't done and when I questioned my dealers techs about it the sag they sort of avoided the question, however some good points raised which I'll look into when and if it stops raining!

Will give the soft 'wet' settings in sport mode a go and see how it feels, Thanks

I have backed my rebound and compression setting progressively down four clicks front and back and after I had my BST CF wheels fitted I went down another click all around. She seems to be a lot more civilized on the rough stuff while still doing the job at high speeds.

Hamish did you get your your DES dialed in yet ?

I have fitted the comfort seat (=improvement), flipped from F to P (=improvement) and will back off the damping next and see where we get to.
Sag I have at present is 14mm/35mm (static/rider) which seems a softer number than I expected given the firm feel. I weigh 76Kg.
With the two changes above I can stay in the seat when I see rough approaching rather than standing on the pegs to save my back!

Yip I did, sag was way out and have done some track work to work through different settings, needless to say it feels pretty good now and the tyres are wearing well

I dropped my rebound and compression settings. Adjusted front and rear preload, and went back to F. Not a smooth ride, but is it supposed to be? I had a lot more confidence in the front end after this.

Hamish you and I are pretty much the same weight - could you pass on you front and rear compression and rebound settings please. Transnone passed on some but he's a lot lighter than me so would like to try some from an equivalent weight guy. Cheers.

You saying I'm fat? Good point, well argued!!

I'm not so worried about getting bounced out the seat but would like a bit more of a planted feeling in the turns. The front end seems light and floaty and doesn't give me a solid, planted feeling.

Hi Mate,
I'm a similar weight to yourself and have handed my bike over to Shock Treatment for adjustments.
The front springs are meant to be 1.0, they measured it and swapped them out to 1.1
the rear spring was measured at 9.0 and they swapped it out for an 8.5, but recommended that for my weight it should be 8.0. (they didn't have the 8.0 in stock at the time.)
In addition to this they re-valved both front and rear, but unfortunately I didn't ask from what to what.. but I do know that compression damping was reduced by quite a fair amount, especially in the rear.

I run 25mm sag front, and 35mm sag rear.

Front: C:18 R:16
Rear: C:30 R:16

linakge is at P

She's a lot more compliant and liveable as a commuter with these settings than from stock.

Your rebound and compression are probably wonky then.

Sure, I've set my sag at around 25 in the front and 15 in the rear. For the street front - 25C and 19R, rear 17C and 13R. It's still quite firm and could use softening dependent on road surface. For the track I use front 25C and 17R, rear 15C and 9R @ 30psi front and 28psi rear. 30/30psi for the street.

Could possibly harden it up a little more for the track with a little less tyre pressure. However I'm getting good results and confidence with current settings, it's not perfect, still some work to do. Hope that helps

Suspension Setup Ducati 1199 NZ

Hamish, had my suspension reset by Robert Taylor of KSS Suspension Specialists New Plymouth. I am in Wellington and took my bike up there yesterday and he did it on the spot, like you I found it way to firm for me,I weigh 84k. I am rapt with the result , I also ride a Honda Fireblade and this is now as comfortable:):) Ring me 027 431 6082

Hei NeilNeil53, I am same wt as yrs. Do you mind sharing the front and rear C/R set up that you run for sport and race modes ? I am pretty new at this and still playing with my new bike. I figure this will be a good base start. I have not measured rider or static sag yet. Thanks for the help :)

cheers

Our Ohlins DES Settings for Putnam Park Race Track are 12 on all damper settings, very easy to remember. 12. 12, 12, and 12. Front Sag 38 and rear Sag 28 with 200lb rider.
