Do some motorcycles grow on you over time?

I think back when Ducati released the 999. I saw it in the magazines, saw it at the 2002 Cycle World motorcycle show, and no matter what, I never liked the looks of the bike. A year later, in 2003, I started to really like the 999. It had grown on me, it looked better than ever. And even today, I think the 999 is one of the best looking motorcycles to ever come out of Ducati, better looking than the 1098, better looking than the DesmoRR.

Are there any motorcycles you initially did not like and now they've grown on you and you do like them? What changed?

Interesting topic. I detested the 999 at it's debut, although some details like the DSS and new dash made sense for the reasons given by Terblanche. I detested it less as the years have gone by but I wouldn't give it the praise you do.

Streetfighter bikes have been the ones I've turned around on. I didn't like the "naked sportbike" look for a while but the 1098 SF and now the Tuono look better and better to me, perhaps because I'm over 40 now and appreciate the comfort aspect while still being able to shred a twisty road. I would love to add a more "streetable" sporty bike to the garage and the new MV Agusta Dragster and Tuono V4 are particularly enticing to me.

Cars are similar. I hated the Z4 when it first came out, but now the latest one with the retractable hard top is simply gorgeous.

I never liked the 1199 when it came out, loved my 1198 at the time. But after taking one for a ride last year i bought it on the spot. The electronics won me over, only gripe with it is i miss the midrange of the 1198

I used to think that the multistrada 1000ds was the most horrible looking motorcycle in history but after owning one for 30000 miles and sale it to get the new MTS, now I missed that ugly bike so much and I think she is good looking (I think I need glasses)
