I have the downshift blipper on my 899 track bike, which was done using the TuneBoy system. It works great, and everyone who has ridden my bike has raved about how cool that feature is. Now that I have it, I don't think I can live without it on any track bike I have in the future. Every time I ride my Ninja 300, I forget that I have to use the clutch and it irritates me to have to do it. However, the Tuneboy setup is very expensive and requires an ECU reflash, so not many have done it. And if you want to make any programming changes to it, then another ECU flash is required. We've been talking with our friends at BSD in England about a project to develop an external module for downshift blipper function, and they have all the pieces in place now to make it happen. Now it's just a matter of getting the production pieces made and getting it to market. The big question at this point is how much demand is there for this from current 1199/899 owners? That will have a big impact on the pricing so I wanted to get a feel from all of the forum peeps on how much interest there might be for something like this?

The plan is to have a basic "street" version that will have a clutch-switch triggered blipper function, so that you can downshift using the clutch as you currently do, but don't need to blip the throttle, the system will do it for you. Then the "race" version that will have a load cell on the shift lever (like my Tuneboy setup has) so that you can downshift simply by using the shift lever and no clutch. It will come with software so you can configure everything and will be totally external with all factory connectors, no ECU reflash or other permanent modifications to the bike required.

The target would be around $649 for the street version and $999 for the race version, so significantly less expensive than the Tuneboy setup, but that will depend on how many they can make in a batch based upon the demand. Target would be to release it early next year if it's a "go". We would take pre-orders over the Winter for the first batch. Let me know what y'all think and I'll pass it along!

P.S. - It would also work on other bikes with the RbW system, Diavel, Multistrada, etc.

jarel, do you mabye want to repost it and make it a poll?

Dumb question j, does this put any pressure on the clutch? Newb to the clutch less shifting stuff.

I already have this function built into my right wrist. My system works on every bike I ride without additional "per bike" fees or other electronic difficulties.

I'm interested in a so called "race" version. I've been talking about this for almost a year on the forums, having clutch-less downshifting with rev matching. Seems like a no brainer progression from having clutch-less up shifting....

A grand is a big pill to swallow tho...

I'd be interested in the race version. Will it be able to accomodate standard shift pattern? I happen to be one of those weird holdouts who prefer standard to GP shift on the track :)

I would be interested as well. I need it to accommodate my RB module QS. hopefully the price will come down a little.

I know the PS3 system with auto blip downshift I was looking at from Proshift costs $4600
Same system as on Koen's Roche Tribute 1199 but that is a complete up & down shift system

I am interested in the Race version as long as it doesn't affect my Rapidbike products...(race module and quick shifter )

That's great, not everyone appreciates or wants new technology. That's why Triumph still makes the Bonneville.

Yes for sure, I run standard shift myself also. I used to have my race bikes set up for GP but I ride so many different bikes all the time now it's easier to just leave it on standard.

i'm interested in the race version, will there be a feature to button shift??

No, a button shifter would require some kind of mechanism to move the shift arm automatically, like an air-shifter on a drag bike.

...."ain't that the truth"....it's funny when we talk advancements and the nay-sayers chime in enthusiastically shooting the idea down.....i guess we could go back to smoke signals, or rotary phones....or how about "stick shifters" in F1 - just saying "stick shifter" is ancient :)

-- as for me, i'm hoping Ducati gives it to us....out of the box, as rumors seem to be indicating

I'll draw the line on that one. I think paddle shifters are the worst thing to happen to sports cars in just about ever. Losing the mechanical connection to the drivetrain simply sucks, IMHO. F1 reversed a lot of driver "aids" like launch control and TC several years ago which was immediately successful to the sport with fans and drivers alike, but missed the opportunity to eradicate the scourge of "flappy paddle gearboxes."

If you lived through or even watched videos of the awesome 80's-90's F1 era, where fantastic talents like Prost, Mansell and Senna battled it out with analogue machines, you would wish the same. Shifting yourself was part of the skill set: you missed a shift - you got passed ;)
