Anyone have issues when using the DQS going into 6th gear?

Just a couple time recently when I'm in 5th gear going 80+ i'll upshift (DQS - Clutchlessly) to 6th gear and it jerks a bit and I see it never kicked into 6th gear. I'll then do it harder and it goes into 6th gear.

Anyone have a similar issue or know why it didn't go into 6th gear the first time I tried it?

Again, its not all the time. It has only happened about 2-3 times out of the 100's of times I did it. Just want to be aware of any issues to come if it start doing it more.

thoughts??

When I first got my bike, i would quick shift all the time... well the bike doesnt like this, it only likes to use quick shift when you are hard on the throttle and in higher revs.

Yeah.. I kinda noticed that too. I basically use the clutch when I'm around town, stopping and going.

But this time today, I was hard on the throttle and quick shifting through all the rest of the gears seamlessly, except when I was going from 5th to 6th.

I hope this was on the track???;)

I had issues with it until I adjusted the shift linkage. You'll be amazed how much of a difference much a couple of turns can make.

The only time I use the clutch is when starting from stopped.

I have noticed it with my bike too and it seems to only happen if I did not back my foot off the gearshift completely, Make sure that you remove all the pressure on the gearshift between shifts and it would not happen again.

I've had that happen a few times on my 1199 as well. Cruising up to highway speed and it hangs up going from 5th to 6th using the DQS. I just make sure to be extra firm with that upshift, just as I am between 1st and 2nd.

Interestingly enough, I was reading Motorcyclist last month and they were testing another Ducati and remarked about hitting a false neutral going from 5th to 6th.

Yeah, bouncing off of the rev limiter at redline from 5th into 6th is a little unnerving.

I would also get a neutral shift between 5th and 6th.
I make sure to be more assertive with my shifts and the problem has gone away since.

the whole works needs a bit of time to break in. there's also technique; I found I had more "issues" when I changed footwear. So that's a consideration as well.

I've tried GP shift several times in the past and don't like it. But I may give it another shot; GP shift may make the DQS work a bit better.

I get same thing sometimes ( 1100 miles on the clock now ) but have found that changing my foot position helps - I think that it may be a case of not moving the lever far / hard enough? The first time it did it I thought something had gone spectacularly wrong!

I too have had a hard time with 5th and 6th, but I haven't had it up at speed yet to properly do so. I have a feeling since RPMs are so low, it doesn't want to pop in for me, and this is the norm for low rpm shifts.

I've had issues with the DQS as well, from 4 to 5 AND 5 to 6. And this is at full throttle on the straight at the track.

In any gear, and at any revs, the system just feels kinda spongy and soft (compared to the quickshift on my 14 s1krr). I've heard adjusting it helps but I haven't messed with it yet.

Anyone had any luck crisping up the feel of their DQS by adjusting it?

Just bumped into this post, which interests me because whilst I experienced the 5th - 6th issue a lot when I first got it, I appear to have worked my way around it by holding the lever longer with my foot, rather than just stabbing at it. It seems to make the changes smoother too, small or large throttle opening doesn't matter.

However, I've recently started having occasional trouble going from 4th - 5th where the engine will stutter, as if the quickshifter is cutting and reapplying the power at the wrong moment. I'll be taking the bike for a oil service soon so I'll mention it to the technician.

Yup happens when I pin the throttle hard going from 5th to 6th. Not all the time but like most of you said, I brought it up to my dealer and they said I have to reproduce it consistently for them to diagnose.

Every single sportbike I've ridden needs to be accelerating to clutchless upshift.

What unloads the transmission? When you suddenly stop accelerating, then it slides right into gear. If your coasting at high rpm, or holding a constant speed, it's not going to be a smooth shift.

It's called a QUICK shifter for a reason. If you're just wiggling through traffic at low speed while singing show tunes, use the clutch.
