Unfortunately, when I was riding back from school with my lady following me, I was merging to Alton Rd on the beach north bound and a dark grey hyundai sonata brake checked me; I turned to the left since he was cutting me off to go into the right lane, my right clip on hit his car taillight in the left driver side corner.

I should really get a go pro.

I tried to correct it, but the bike fell over infront of him, my lady was a car length behind and the bike on top of my leg, i squirmed out, she jumped off her bike, we picked my bike up, and i turned around and the guy is gone, no where in sight. I could've pursued but not sure where he went.

Is this a hit & run?
First time anything has happened like this on a motorcycle, I've been street driving for 3 years now and everyone has stopped when something has happened.

I'm very glad I have t-rex sliders on front and rear axle, as well as case covers, saved my ... more than twice now, scratched my front fairing but, nothing broken and didn't have to tow my bike.

While i was riding back home my ABS light and the triangle with a arrow wouldn't turn off, when i turned the bike on this morning they were gone,

When i turn left it has a bump stop, when I turn right, my clip on hits the fairing.
Did something brake inside the triple tree?

did i hit my alignment out of wack?

this would be the third time i need to get new bar ends and i'm now wishing i had a foldable top mounted mirror like my old hand me down 600rr

Here's a photo i took, I can see the bar end got bent and damaged, and the brake lever also,

could it be that I snapped a the over steering tab on the triple tree or something?

Sounds like you snapped the steering stop, you should be able to see a broken tab. You may have to pull the two screws out of the ignition cover, but you should be able to see a tab missing.

Yes, what Tj Hunter said, busted off the steering stop tab/screw on the top of the lower triple tree. They are weak as heck, unfortunately not much you can easily do to repair the lower tree. I used these, see link below, easy to install, cheap and work great. Sorry to hear about your accident and yes, that was a hit and run for sure.

Like most accidents involving cars probably didn't even know you were there.

Always have comprehensive insurance

I never follow a car directly behind, when i am behind a vehicle i tend to leave myself an exit to the left or right. I always pass and get around all traffic asap. In Vermont we are allowed to pass on double yellows. Never follow cars. Stay to the left or right of them, it is easier for them to see you in their mirrors. Also, in a society full of A-Holes do not trust anyone on another motorized vehicle around you.

What he said. But he also forgot to add, in this society of people who refuse to accept personal responsibility for things. aka hitting and running cuz they're too scared to handle consequences of their actions. but also, it means you were following too closely to the car and in an incorrect lane position to avoid a collision. win some lose some, you're fine so call it a learning experience and be glad it's just some bike parts that can be fixed or replaced.

and yes it sounds like you broke a steering stop, possible to be fixed depending on how and where it broke

The older I get, the more space I leave. Not saying you didn't leave enough space or had any chance of avoiding this one.

I think the term would be leaving the scene of an accident.

Without evidence it would be either 50/50 split fault (he said/she said) or 100% your fault since you were coming from behind and struck the vehicle in front of you. Now if you had video of him cutting you off and hitting the brakes hard to move right, then you'd have a fighting chance. Sorry to hear it, but glad you're okay!

Coming in clutch with the upgrades!!

I appreciate everything and everyone's input on the subject. With all my previous bikes; old honda scramblers, and a 03 600rr never had an issue with lane spiting, of course it happens on my first ducc.
hahahaha

Definitely will take what everyone's said in mind. About lane positions and maintaining safe distance, everything you've learned about safety gets lost in the back of your mind when your girlfriend's hungry and i want to go home after class.

Although I do have insurance it's not that big of a deal, and I wouldn't dream of taking this through that, my insurance is crazy high as it is for my first "superbike". The repairs would be less than the cost of my deductible anyway.

And as i've been told, "The bike isn't yours until you drop it".
