Hi All,

Just wanted to find out if anyone has upgraded their base model 1299 rear shock to an Ohlins Rear shock. I would like to also find out the model of Ohlins shock used as I am finding it hard to figure out the exact model needed for the 1299.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Chris

I might have a bitubo up for sale soon.

I got one off a 1199r, it was being converted to a race bike and he was changing suspension.
I think the model is the DU930 Ohlins TTX GP, that is the aftermarket one. The OEM 1199r is the Ttx MkII.

Thanks for all the replies.

I managed to order the Ohlins DU360 which is apparently the second series in the TTX-GP units.

What model bitubo Phl ?? Going a different route??

xxf-61

i came across an Ohlins, so i'm trying this one now, it also matches the new fork internals.

not unsatisfied with the bitubo, just wasn't able to sell the Ohlins for what i wanted for, so selling the bitubo soon for my upcoming race season.

Do you want to pm me what price you are looking for

I have a base model and I'm planning on upgrading my suspension this spring. Plan is to go with new GP suspension up front and a Penske rear shock.

From what I've read so far the Penske unit is a great piece of kit and saves a few bucks over the Ohlins.

For those that have experience with both, do you think the price premium is really worth it on the Ohlins? Why?

Hi All,

I managed to purchase an Ohlins rear shock (DU360) for my 1299 base.

I was wondering other than sag, compression and rebound is there anything else that needs to be setup? I was told by someone that before purchasing the shock I should have provided my weight so the spring could be adjusted to my weight. Not sure if this is something that can be setup after the install on the bike but wanted to get some feedback from others that may have done this before.

Cheers

They need your weight in all your gear to choose the right size spring. You can then set the preload when you get the shock fitted, but it will mean that the preload will be accurate and mean the shock is working within the correct rage of movement.

Thanks for the reply.

Out of curiosity how do the standard rear shocks rate when you buy these bikes of the showroom floor?

I assume these shocks are a one size fits all?

How would you know if the standard shock is rated for your weight?

Cheers
Chris

They are a one size fits all. If you are in the weight range then great. I'm 90kg (200 lb) and have yet to own a bike that has a suitable Spring, so I always factor in some suspension upgrades.

Getting an aftermarket shock is a much more precision unit that has the ability to be matched to you.

I think suspension filled by light wheels are the best mods you can do.
