Hi everyone!

I'm very much considering making my first financially dumb (but fun) adult purchase this spring with the purchase of a new Ducati. I'm debating between the Ducati Streetfighter V2, and the XDiavel. This will be my first street bike, but I grew up racing motocross, downhill mountain bikes, & riding bmx. My buddies & I even bought mopeds in the summer of 2010 before we could get our drivers' licenses and proceeded to ride the wheels off of those things. All of this is to say that I'm very confident of my ability (and am cognizant my limits) on two wheels.

With that said, I recognize this to be a different beast entirely and I'm really not sure what to expect with the amount of power these machines can put down. Am I aiming too high by starting with one of these bikes? I've also considered the Monster+, or the KTM 890 Duke, but I really would prefer to make one purchase and be done with it for a while. That is to say rather than buying a slower bike and upgrading in a year, I would much rather get a bike I can grow into as I get more confident on the road. Additionally, I know the XDiavel has an urban setting that limits power ~100HP.

Ultimately, I know the decision will boil down to the type of riding I'm looking to do. But before I answer that question I'm curious to get input from the community - are these bike too powerful for a first time street rider who is cautiously confident of their ability on two wheels?

Thanks y'all!

Most people here started out on Pani R's and then moved on WSBK cast offs for the street

Nah just pulling your chain! You'll get a million opinionated answers but after responding to this same question a few times a year it boils down to "do you have real world road skills?" it helps if you have a few years driving under your belt and other 2 wheel experience but most accidents happen either very early on or surprisingly after about 6 months when overconfidence kicks in. You will fall off, thats a given so my advice is get a cheapy for a first road bike then move on to the dream Ducati. By then you'll know what you want, A diavel is really quite different to a streetfighter.
