I remember reading a thread about having the switch up or down... Having it down does not drain the battery, I had it on the down position for 8 days without turning it on or having it on a battery tender! Result no battery drain, fired up just fine! Since then I always cut the bike with the switch and leave it in the down position, besides hopping on the bike and being able to flip the switch up and out POPS the button makes the bike feel more like a jet fighter!! Si o no?
 
Was told by my tech to not leave the cover down...the springs are noted to get fatigued and malfunction; according to him
 
I was leaving it down until I heard about the possible spring issue on the previous thread
 
So far I left the switch up all the time, likewise for my diavel so far no problem on both bikes.
