Engine blow up.

Geez here we go again. Magazine reviews are written to sell magazines. Nuff said. I had one of the first Tric's in my area. Was racing an S1K and 1 month after owning the Tric, sold the BMW to buy a second 1199 base to race. Why? For a million reasons, logical and emotional, just like virtually every other decision every person makes.

Paralysis by analysis or just want to wax philosophical to impress others with how much we know about motorcycles?

Buy it or don't, but just make the decision...it's a bike.

Perhaps one good thing about putting a lot of miles on a new bike rapidly is that if there is a recall or a major failure you get a new engine out of it and a reset odometer.

Of course, if there is a failure, and you just happen to be in, oh, South Dakota or Detroit then maybe it's not worth it.

Thanks for the insightful comments. Not trying to impress anyone and didn't ask for your help. Mostly, just conveying my impressions and clarifying erroneous information. I wasn't criticizing anyone or making a completely off topic dumb@ss comment. I could care less why you bought the first one, much less the second. I will make my own decision, with my own money when I decide to do so.

what mode and power setting were you in on the pani for your test ride? As world of difference in the bike in 120, 195 hi 195 lo and the sport race and wet modes.

STill takes my breath away in 195 hi.

It's also one reason I am looking to get a Panigale S. There treatment of the customers in this case was a lot like I have seen with their cars. I love the bike but don't like the c.s. I was a bit underwhelmed by my Pani test ride though so I am still up in the air with what I am going to do next.

And of the 1500 that were fixed only a handful had problems (I donbt beliece is was anywhere near hundreds much less thousands), some of those after the recall was announced. I would not have ridden the bike after the announcement but that is just me.

Any chance you're inflating those BMW numbers just a little? I've heard of a few failures from the conrod issue but far from hundreds. If you have a source for those numbers I would be interested to read about it.

Five went bang at Aragon the week before a friend of mine arrived for a no limits track day and a further three exploded while he was there. The Aragon staff were even briefing S1000RR riders separately on the correct etiquette of staying off the racing line after their bike had gone bang and was spewing oil everywhere. Maybe not thousands, but certainly not a handful either.

Thanks for the heads up.

I liked a lot of things about the bike but the engine was really disappointing and I really want to like the bike. I was in Sport mode and I believe 195 hi. He was playing around showing me how to change everything and I am pretty sure he went back to 195 hi although it may have been lo. That could have been the issue too. I tested a base model but i want to go back and test an S when they get one as a demo because of the Ohlins. I am not in a big hurry, I will be getting a 2013. When I go back, I will make sure the settings are correct too.
