Hi guys,

Just purchased a new V4 which I will use as a race bike only. Wanted to double check whether the existing akra/termi exhausts are fully compatible with the new 2022 bike (not including the newly released akra)? Are the exhaust headers the exact same shape/size as the 2021 and previous year models.

Thanks for the help.

If you are doing a full system you should be fine. There's a difference in where a slip-on would attach with the EU5 spec bikes but you'd be replacing all of that anyway.

EU5 uses 4 O2 sensors but the full Akra install uses terminator plugs on two of them blocking them off. I'd think if you are going full race bike you're going to be sorting out a high end tuning option, Woolich etc., so any lingering tune/map issues would be taken care of.

Thanks for the answer.
Yup will be doing the Woolich log box and O2 sensor soon but initially was just going to do wsbk termi with an upmap for the next couple of months. Should be fine hopefully.

Do you know if the race fairings with the extra cooling ducts at the bottom are available anywhere yet? I had look around but only seen the old style fairings so far...

Based on how few people race these bikes and that a new V4 is around the corner there will most likely be no race faring with the vents with he exception of the DP ones which I think don't have belly pan

Wouldnt be surprised to see the new v4r sporting the same lower vents when it comes out.

If Ducati finally managed to sort reliability issues on this last model (which I think they might have) a lot more peoples should start racing it... On paper its a great package compared to whats available from other manufacturers. Pricing also not bad for the base version. Currently I'm racing an R1, I look forward to see how the duc compares. 🤞

I wouldn't be surprised if you struggle to match the R1 times...

Where will you be racing?

Rick,

I plan to upgrade bike soon.

I see you are not that convinced yet with the V4.

But you gave it a second chance.

Why did you decide to try it again with a V4, instead of an R1 or BMW, (are Kawasaki and suzuki competitive also ?)

From a racers point of view, I understand it is always more special to race a Ducati, but if performance gets on the way, in the world of racing, any advantage is welcomed, and more if it comes at a lower price.

The short version I heard from guys t track days who have owned both is that R1's are easy to ride fast and Yamaha parts world is just better. In our local superbike series the top 10 bikes are all Japanese, that may reflect the cost of running a bike or the dealerships that are committed to racing, but if Duc's were really competitive someone would campaign one.

I've still got a couple PBs on my 2016 ZX10R, about six PBs on my BM, and one PB on the V4 22 bike.
I was extremely close to going for an R1, but fell for the Ducati marketing when the V4R was launched. And, tbf, the hardest thing has been finding a great setup. The other three mentioned machines, all have lots of setup data available. There's virtually none for the V4.
But, I'm doing this as a hobby, and to enjoy the sport. And, on that basis, the ownership proposition of the Ducati is hard to beat. I very much enjoy owning, and riding, the V4s. And I'm expecting/hoping, more PBs to come.
I think I would be faster on the R1, most people seem to be.
And, you'd hope, running an R1 would be far cheaper. I'm not looking forward to the V4R engine refresh (close to £9k). As opposed to an R1, where you'd just buy a new engine.
If I really wanted to change from the R1, and wanted race results fast, I'd go Honda Fireblade. Costs £40k though, which is about the same money as a V4R, and at least £10k more than the R1. For no faster lap times.

You might be right on this. The R1 is an amazing bike but its a bit short on power compared to some of the newer bikes. The track I race at has some looong straights so the ducati might help there... Seems like there is more room for tucking than on the r1 as well. On an R1, its really hard to keep up with the new hondas now.

I might just keep racing the R1 and keep the V4 as a track day bike, mostly just bought it because it looks ....... good and have wanted one for a long time 🙂

Thai national championship. Its basically a one track championship at the motogp track (Chang International circuit). Long straights. Might also start going to Sepang in Malaysia now that borders are reopened.
Heres some of my laps, as you can see the v4 might be a good package for this layout:

I think the Thai championship was won by a V4 recently? It was running Maxton suspension :D

Not exactly. He did win the first round though but theres 4 more races to go for the championship. He had a TTX GP rear. Not sure on the front forks

I'm actually looking at a 2nd hand Maxton rear shock. Its from a 2019 v4 though... Looks a little different to the one you show in one of your videos. Wondering if theres any difference to the length/linkage with the new changes to the swingarm pivot point? Do you like your Maxton?

Cool. Yes, it was a couple years ago on the Maxton, I believe!
D'you have a pic of the shock?
No differences to the linkages (compared to 2020 onwards bikes, 2018-19 has 5mm different length linkage).
No difference to length, although, I would suggest one with minimum length of 306mm if possible.

My Maxton shock is amazing, love it. On the a GP circuit, you probably won't notice how brilliantly it deals with bumps, but it will easily match an Ohlins on a smooth track.

Thanks for the recommendation on the maxton. Good to know it works well. Here are some pics of the shock.
