I was wondering if anyone purchased the extended warranty. Do you guys recommend it?

I probably will do, however, in the UK at least, we do not need to decide until upto 18 months after purchase. Let's see how reliable my bike is first.

I purchased an additional extended warranty of 4 years to make a total warranty coverage of 6 years. Extended Warranty was approximately $1,000 at the time of the bike purchase.

My decision criteria was :

- The warranty was much more important to me than any parts, accessories or bling
- I had already purchased and owned all the major DP parts
- It is a bike with an array of innovations
- It is a bike with 5 computers, each of which individually to replace will cost a minimum of $3,000
- The tech engineers strongly recommended it
- Better deal to get the warranty when the bike is new than when the miles are put on
- I intend to keep the bike and not resell it - period

4 extra years negotiated as part of the original purchase. ~ $600. I plan on keeping the bike for a long time. Figured the extra bucks spent could easily pay off and as a percentage of the total price of the bike, the cost for the coverage was a nit.

Was a no-brainer really! 1100 $ for 4 years of total coverage and if you haven't claimed they give you 900 $ back at the end of the term.

Even if you're not keeping it, it adds to the resale value

Unless I get some kind of sweet deal like this, doesn't make sense to pay for an extended warranty. I don't have a lot of faith in aftermarket warranties and after numerous cars without them, I just don't see the need. I guess it's all about risk.

We get two years here. The third year is the extended part and costs £ 300.

I had an extended warranty on my 1098 and it definitely was worth it.....however....the company I use is way cheaper than the prices you guys are quoting....some of yall got robbed lol

Didn't think about it at the time of purchase. I'm not sure if it is even available down here.....another phone call to the dealer me thinks.

They living in Nassau count, NY..we have the highest taxes in the nation and the least to show for it. Your COL is meaningless without our tax burden.

Send some of your illegals home and take the heat off of the rest of us, will ya?

Back to the OT, was never offered an EW...will ask about it Monday.

To put some context on this for the U.S. folks, the factory does not offer an extended warranty. There are a few different companies which offer extended warranties. Comparing costs without comparing coverage details is meaningless.

Of course lastly, extended warranty companies in the past have gone out of business before warranties have expired leaving owners with little or no recourse, so price and coverage are not the only significant considerations.

Caveat emptor.....

+1 Well said - Thank you.

RSR racer,

I could probably do as much about illegal immigrants as you can do about the robbing banks in your state and the mess their unchecked greed has created in this world ;-)

Since you want to start a discussion on which state pays the MOST in tax then consider this fact :

Looks like California contributes the most tax dollars in the USA, even more so post 2008 ;-)

+1 I've never known anyone to file an extended warranty claim from a aftermarket coverage (not due to an accident) in the $1k's. But then again, I've never had a vehicle repair more than $1k either. Might be different for each person, sometimes an extended warranty is simply for piece of mine. I don't blame you tho (with some of the prices I've seen here), I'd probably get one, too. Still, I wouldn't pay anyone not even a penny more just because they had an extended warranty attached to the bike, esp an aftermarket one.

Well good for you guys then! I say you should pay more for your adopted neighbors ;)

But add in state FED and property and we are the overall losers!!

We are all getting F'ed on a daily basis. Thank goodness we can still have enough for toys to take our minds off of that...now about that extended warranty; is there a certain time we need to do this by?
I had one on my R1 (factory 4 years)
