I'm looking to get some ohlins for my V4. Besides the machined fork bottoms on the FGRT 214, is there any difference between those and the oem ohlins forks that comes off the 15+ 1199r/ and 1299r FE?

They both say they have NIX 30 internals. I sometimes see deals for used 1199r/1299r forks but I wonder if the FGRT 214 are worth it or any better.

thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I had a V4S deposit and the bike was snagged by another buyer through a communication error between the two shops. So I had considered doing a V4 Base and then adding all the other bits.

Topic was covered a lot of times in the 1199 Forums, but the cost of the Ohlins 214 forks at $2400 and then the rear TTX shock $1350 and then the forged Marchesini wheels $2232 comes out to $5982.

Guess it still less than an S Model? Again they look like great forks and the diameter of the tubes is bigger than the S/R tubes?

I'm pretty sure the fork uppers are a different diameter on the 1199/1299 than the V4. V4 uses the same diameter fork as the 899 & 959. You'll need to purchase a different upper clamp if going with the 1199/1299 setup.

The 1299r forks I’m getting are 53/58mm. So it should fit the V4. I found a set for $1400, just trying to figure out if there’s any other differences besides the machined fork bottoms that would be worth buying the FGRT forks.

In my experience the general build quality of the aftermarket Ohlins stuff is noticeably higher than that of the OE Ohlins stuff. Possibly because the OE stuff is made given the OEM's input/direction. For instance looking at the cartridges from my OE NIX 30 S forks compared to my FKR 108 stuff you see the OE preload spacer is a plastic piece compared to the mostly aluminum preload spacer on the aftermarket cartridge. I've also read that some OEMs *ahem* Triumph *ahem* will cut corners and only do the TiN treatment on the portion of the inner fork tube that you can see.

I haven't ridden a set of aftermarket NIX30 forks so I can't tell you if any of those things impact performance but they're things you might notice while inspecting the torn down components side by side. Given the difference in price I'd just buy the aftermarket stuff. No worrying about straightness or damage or needing to have them serviced/rebuilt and you get the best version of an Ohlins suspension component (aka the one straight from Ohlins).

^I think you might be right. The pics I have seen over the years of the internals of the OEM Ohlins vs. the FGRT Aftermarket forks is interesting, and like you said about the spacers and probably the fork seals an other bits.

I have the 2018 V4S so I will probably get all kinds of problems cropping up and I also recall with the 1199S there was a shock recall and bolts in the head not connected to the frame properly.
