and months off learning in the forum, My new MY17 1299s arrived !
First timer Ducatist and first time I buy a brand new vehicle, so excited !!!!!

After mounting the battery (Lithium), is it good to go ? anything needed before the first start ?
I mounted the battery in the living room and noticed after turning the key off there is a light noise from the headlight area and noticed it comes from the LED's (almost not seen fast blinking) is that normal ?!

Anything I should know/notice, also tips on the break in will help.

already got a T rex rear stand and all the bling to mount :)
pics will arrive soon

CONGATS!!! :)
Have fun riding and working on your new toy!

Are you sure the hissing sond comes from the head light?
Try turning your bike off with an open fuel cap.

Just regulary check your oil level during break in, and don't baby your engine.

Interesting you should say that. I noticed until the ECU powers down (about 45 seconds after KEY OFF), the headlight makes a very faint buzzing sound and the two main LEDs can be seen flashing rapidly but very dimly. After ECU clicks off, they switch off and sound stops. Never had this on the 1199, so wondering, from your observation, if this is normal on the 1299. Be interested to hear from others if they have observed this.

Funny I never noticed this until you said something. It buzzes like you suggested but the LED's aren't flickering.

exactly !
+- a minute after key off, I hear a switch sound (something shutting off in the seat area) and the dimly leds and noise stops.

(didn't turn the engine on yet )
same noise when the key is ON but engine off (parking light?) noise stops on high beam.

your 1199 was with LED headlight ?

Yes I had an 1199S but it never behaved in this way. This seems specific to the 1299S. As I said if other owners could chime in that would be helpful. The click you hear after key off is the main relay (located in the right hand electrical support) cutting power to the ECU. This 45 seconds I am told is where data is fed to the ECU before power is cut completely. It seems as if a small voltage is still being fed to the LEDs during this 45 seconds.

Completely normal.

OP: Has the bike come directly to you and not via a dealer? If so, you need to do your own PDI on it. Check EVERYTHING!

Are you saying your headlight behaves in the same way? Would still like a straw poll from other 1299S owners to see if this is across the board.

I Am not pretty sure if I had exactly the same symptoms but few days ago during my first 1000km service I was informed that there is something wrong with my headlight.Never noticed that but apparently there is something wrong with it. Let your dealer better to check this out. Hopefully mine will be replaced on warranty.

It was an import from another country, received the bike in a closed crate at my door step.

My headlights buzz with key on also. Didn't notice until I brought the bike in the house for the winter. I'm sure it's normal. Congrats on the purchase. My Anniversario was my first Ducati and first new vehicle as well!

Also I think that's pretty cool you got the bike delivered straight to you. No one else's grubby hands can mess with it.

For the first, what, 600 miles I believe you have to watch your RPMs from what I was told.

This is NOT what the OP was describing! The issue is that the headlight flickers and makes a clicking sound AFTER key off, until the relay cuts the power to the ECU around 45 sec - 1 minute later, when it then stops.

If any forum members' 1299S exhibits these same symptoms, then please post your findings here. I will be contacting Ducati to check if this is normal behaviour and also report back.

1st spy pics ;)

and question:
DP fuel cap, whats the round rubber ? doesn't appear in the Instructions and parts list

I think when you remove the stock fuel cap assembly, you'll find this replaces an old gasket to seal the new unit to the tank.

Congrats. Love that DP fuel cap. Is it hard to put that part on at home?

max 10min when you are over careful not to scratch or drop something in the tank. I'll remove and re-mount to get that rubber in ("thats what she said" :D)

ended up with 2 new DP caps:eek:, one is mounted and one will get in the classifieds bought also DP bar ends but decided to go with a Rizoma proguard and matching RH bar end.
still lot of bling to mount, a full sticker set and clear 3M wrap (fairings and CF parts)

Cant believe I still didn't start her up
