I recently purchased my first Ducati, an 1199 S from a local dealer here in Aus, I am new to the forum but have been following you guys for a while, there is some very helpful info here for us first timers, helped me immensley when I purchased the bike. I have attached a few pics, made a couple of subtle mods but nothing over top. I am amazed at the perfomance jump, I have been off bikes for a couple of years now and was blown away by the way these things handle compared to my old bikes, most impressive. Anyway, enough rambling, looking forward to catching up with a few riders here in Aus when time allows.

Cheers JT

Hi Jon
Welcome. We both have something in common. My 1199S purchased in May 2012 was my first Ducati and my first bike after a long break from riding. Enjoy your new bike, its a fantastic bike.

Thanks Brad, I nearly ended up in Sydney to purchase this one, got the last demo available in Queensland, $5000.00 cheaper than brand new with the full termi system as well.

Thanks again for the wlecome guys, Gunny, how did you go with getting the goo off your tank, did WD-40 do the trick?

Welcome JonT, congrats on the new bike. I'm just down the road from you in Brissy. Might just see you up in the hills one day.

Also, yes wd40 works great for getting the goo off.

Welcome and have fun. The Dragon Lady is my first Ducati too and she also have a few subtle mods.

Haha, thanks Claymore, I'm not sure I'd class them as subtle but they do look great, I can see this becoming an expensive obsession.

Cheers JT

Thanks mate, I live up in the hinterland near Maleny, let me know next time you're heading up that way, Obi Obi Rd is a fantastic run, out of the way and not much traffic.

Congrats! My R is also my first Ducati and it's great! I like the carbon exhaust shields - I put them on too! Once you break it in, if you do that, you'll really enjoy the power above 7500 rpm!!

Thanks for that, it's not actually a carbon sheild, I had the exhaust headers and heat sheilds ceramic coated, more for asthetics than anything else but it has helped a little with reducing the heat output, had the rear sets, kick stand and passenger pegs powder coated at the same time, total cost was $250-00, plus the labour to remove and refit, seems to suit the look of the bike.
The R was a little hard for me to justify the extra expense, beautiful bike though, I'm afraid my skill level wouldn't notice the difference between the S and the R.

Cheers
JT
