Already hit 600 miles yesterday. Looking to do first service, was quoted 225 at dealer which I think is crazy for an oil change. Any one else get any quotes yet.

also any one know if the 1199 engine sliders fit the 1299?

You're complaining about $225? Is this your first sportbike or what? That is an awesome price!

I think it's a decent price in NJ, I paid 250$ for my s1000rr, and for Ducati I think they charge more don't know why , maybe because it's a Ferrari in motorcycle world, btw take those reflectors OFF of this beautiful bike

I would want to know EXACTLY what they plan on doing for $300.

Oil = $30-$40 (retail)
Filter = $15 (retail)

I am sure they will charge you 1hr of labor, which will probably be $60 or so. So that takes you to $105-$115, including the hour or labor.

What else are they going to do? Adjust the chain? That is another 5min worth of work.

Personally, I have never had a dealership do a first service on any of my bikes. I do it myself. I actually do the first oil change at about 50 miles (hard break-in, where I stage RPM's up, utilize a lot of engine braking and perform a few oil/filter changes as I work my way up to 200 miles on the odometer, when I run it to redline).

Unless that first service comes with an oil/filter change, chain adjustment, new air filter and a new set of tires, there is no way they should be charging $300+.

Come out here, mine was $430!

Then they tried to charge for changing the front sprocket which they didn't actually change.

Always did all my maintenece myself when I had a zx10r. But now with this bike as I understand the warrenty is void and the service indicator light will not go off unless you have dealer do all the work.

My first service was 260 with brake/clutch fluid swapped to racing fluid so id say that yours is a good price.

And the engine sliders will fit its the same engine casing on the 1299 as the 1199 just the inside is different

This is incorrect. Your warranty will *not* be voided by doing your own scheduled warranty service (unless, of course, you're incompetent and do the warranty service incorrectly).

$360 in houston for 1st service on my 14R, had them remove the charcoal cannister also.. i suspect it is more than a oil change,,,,who knows here what all is checked on first service?

Ride safe,

Darryl

Negotiated my first service for free as part of the purchase deal.
Should have been 3300SEK = approx 380 USD here in Sweden.
As an illustration, workshop is 900/hr, so they budget for more than 1 hr for sure.

I agree with most here. That's not a bad deal.

I also got my first service thrown in but they said it would've been $300+. Other than valve checks, I'll do the rest of the services.

The warranty will not be void if you do the maintenance yourself.

This.

They simply cannot void your warranty for doing your first service (or any service) yourself. That is a myth that has floated around forums forever.

The first service on my 2012 1199 cost just over $400 Canadian. It is a huge rip off for what is done.

If I recall correctly, they do an oil and filter change, connect to the DDA (or whatever the computer is), check fluids, check bolts (The ones that will have the yellow/white paint pen marks on them), adjust the chain, lube the chain, bleed the clutch and brakes, and perform any recall fixes that are required.

The dealership here lists it as a 3 hour task in total. Honestly, I know that I can do all of this within an hour... Except the computer part as I don't have that or access to it.

I followed the Ducati "rules" and did the dealership route for the first service. That is the only $$$ they will get from me as their techs broke things and lost bolts. Let's just say they "may" be incompetent techs in the Service bay.

In the 1199 owners manual (page 226)there is a scheduled maintenance chart which shows what they are supposed to do on the 1k, 12k, 24k, etc (km) services. Would guess the same is in the 1299 owners manual

^^^ I didn't open the owners manual. It's still in fresh shrinkwrapped packaging, hahaha.

"Supposed to", maybe. But legally they can't void your warranty because they didn't do the first service.

One of my good friends is a Manager at my local dealership (Suzuki, Kawi, Triumph, EBR, Kymco) and they get asked that all the time, but it isn't true.

It is similar to if you look in any Yamaha manual, it says you are "supposed to" use Yamalube. Just like my RSV4 manual says you are "supposed to" use Agip oil.

It is nothing but a way for them to get more money. That is all. And it is even worse because of the "exotic tax" they ....... add to everything simply because it is a Ducati (or an Aprilia). Look at some of the accessories and you will see a little Carbon Fiber piece for the RSV4 no bigger than a cigarette pack costs $250, simply because it has "Official Aprilia" on it. When they know good and damn well it only cost them about $6 to make it.

I'd love to find a dealer who only charges $60/hr rate. Try double that. One of the many perks of living in Los Angeles.
