That is ridiculous.

Those of you who do first service yourself, how do you reset the service light?

It's highway robbery but I paid $350 for my 1199s 1st service.
I would want to know EXACTLY what they plan on doing for $300.
Oil = $30-$40 (retail)
Filter = $15 (retail)
I am sure they will charge you 1hr of labor, which will probably be $60 or so. So that takes you to $105-$115, including the hour or labor.
What else are they going to do? Adjust the chain? That is another 5min worth of work.
Personally, I have never had a dealership do a first service on any of my bikes. I do it myself. I actually do the first oil change at about 50 miles (hard break-in, where I stage RPM's up, utilize a lot of engine braking and perform a few oil/filter changes as I work my way up to 200 miles on the odometer, when I run it to redline).
Unless that first service comes with an oil/filter change, chain adjustment, new air filter and a new set of tires, there is no way they should be charging $300+.
Agreed.. Here in the SF Bay Area, our shops charge between $100 and $120 an hour as well...I'd love to find a dealer who only charges $60/hr rate. Try double that. One of the many perks of living in Los Angeles.
YOU don't. Unless you have a pricey hand held to clear it.
Curious how much this handheld costs? Link?
For everything in the pic that Macattack posted is $3224.33 from Duc of Omaha
Hmm...either a full TI akra system, or DDS and never see dealer again...choices in life
Buy case of oil online $40 If you're worried about keeping a track record go to the dealership buy oil filter there for $40. Or buy a K&N filter for $12....
Do oil change yourself.
$80 600 mile service.
I watched the dealership do the 600 mile service on my white 1199 and they did absolutely zero after changing the oil and charge me over $300.
The laws in other countries may be different between the laws in the United States it is illegal to deny warranty claims simply because a consumer does not bring a production vehicle into a shop for service.
This has been beaten to death.
