Fingers crossed guys, if it is not raining, I will continue breaking 1299s in on a racetrack tomorrow. Forecast is saying there is a risk of rain showers and temperature only +10 Celcius.

So I won't be breaking any lap record, hopefully not the bike either. Contour HD is fully charged and videos will follow if it is a dry track.

I'm still considering whether I put Supercorsa SCx tires on, or just try to manage with OEM Supercorsa SP:s. I've ridden in Misano DRE with SP:s on a 1199s, and I think that they are decent for tomorrow. But it was +25 Celcius in Misano, cold weather is worrying me a bit.

Fingers crossed!

Unless you are an advanced group rider, the SPs willwork great, and don't use SCs without warmers. Don't be ashamed to turn traction control up to 5 until you are comfy, built in insurance. With all the turning around on bike and pace changes I do when coaching, I often turn mine up and use sport mode to make sure an inadvertent throttle input doesn't spin me up!

We really need some more information before we can help. Which group do you ride in (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Racer)? Or if you dont have groups, how far is your personal best lap off from the lap record?

Do you have tire warmers?

For anything short of an Advanced or Racer pace, the OEM tires will be fine. I have even Coached in the Advanced group on OEM tires.

The OEM tires will have a higher silica content and will heat up faster...and in colder conditions they will hold their heat longer and in some instances, could actually proved MORE grip than true race tires (depending on how much load somebody can generate in the carcass).

Done. It was +13 Celcius, but very cold wind. I went with OEM tires.

I am a former Finnish Champion in Supersport class and have been racing RR, supermoto, enduro, motocross and iceroadracing. So I drive in fastest group with guys who race. But I only drove 3 times on a racetrack last year, 1 time in 2013, maybe 4 times 2012 and a lot more prior to that. But I am pretty ok, only one bike was able to pass me today. Of course due to the weather, really fast guys were not there today.

Videos. Unluckily none. My Contour was showing that it is recording, but memory card is empty. Strange. Only some pics, tires covered because of the wind:

About the bike. Eventually I had to put DWC into 4, bike was just lifting too much front wheel. Of course I am a bit rusty now and was 2,7 secs of my personal best in this track which is 1.22,17, today the best was 1.24,9. I think I wasn't giving enough gas from the apex. But this freaking thing is hopping into my lap with fourth gear every time. I just could not keep full throttle at that point when DWC was on 2. With four I was able to keep full throttle. Engine is sick.

Supercorsa SP:s were behaving nicely, no tear or anything. There is fast right hander about 180km/h, I was feeling twice when front started sliding/shaking away, almost lost it at the second time. So I was trying to keep my head with these tires after those. Rear slided often, but DTC was reacting excellently into those. I really have nothing to say about suspension. Which means it is pretty ok. I guess rear spring might be too soft for me, that causes too much wheelies.

Jezuz, what a bike! How fast will this be, when I get some driving skills back with practise, some personal settings, race tires and nice weather? Can't wait.

Thanks for the good write up!

Did you feel the Wheelie Control cut too much power? Did you feel it affecting forward acceleration any? Or did the front wheel still come up a few inches even on that setting?

I agree, a stiffer rear spring is probably in order (they are changing the springs front and rear in mine before I even pick it up).

I really have to drive more before making conclusion. Still with DWC 4 the bike is lifting front wheel 10-20cm. On DWC two it was sometimes 50cm and I wasn't man enough to to keep it pinned. Shutting the throttle helped or it bounced back up. There was around 15 liter bikes in my group, ten of those S1KRR's. Was able to overtake early in straight, so I guess 4 is not limiting too much.

But it wheelied a lot probably because:

1. Rear spring is too soft for me
2. I was cautios because of temperature, tires and me not been driving a lot in past few years. Which lead to too late throttle opening from the apex and that allowed rear end diving down.
3. Because of the tire, it was most likely skidding a bit, maybe DTC was allowing power to come out more heavily when bike was coming up from leaning.

But yeah, I thought my previous S1KRR was an animal, this is brutal. Me like! My wife is gonna hate this, I am already browsing more trackdays. But wife and children first so lets see.
