I just put a deposit down for the FZ-09, they've been selling like hotcakes in the CA. Any other members on the forum have one in their stable? Just curious

Why?

You already have THE hottest bike around, that money could have gone into carbon wheels, subframe and other goodies.

funny you should mention this. I've been contemplating picking up one for commuter duties (mostly in hot-... summers down here in FL). Winter is fine with the built-in heated seats... :)

They're only like $8k. I know you get what you pay for, but that ain't paying much.....

i test rode one and thought it look kool..

i was so close to buying one before test ride but after that i thought its the biggest piece of ......

its twitchy... and can be a widow maker...

its so twitchy that its hard to keep a smooth speed.. which means you have sore wrist, back, neck, shoulder... around corner or take off can even do unexpected things which is bad in my oppion..

seat is very unconfy... you think panigale is bad?
wait to you sit on this...
15L tank enough to do 200km which is less then our panigale

why oh why would you want this .......

I've looked at it as a possible replacement for my Triumph 955 Sprint as something to make into a sport-tourer. My concern is 1) how good is the suspension and 2) the small gas tank size.

Would like to hear your impressions of it when you get it. I love Triumph Triples but Yamaha's has piqued my interest.

I test rode the Yamaha MT09 looks same bike, maybe different name for the US market. Fast, light, stylish , cheap good rear brake... Cons: snatchy throttle, engine felt rough, hard seat

Sounds like a mapping issue. Was it "snatchy" across full RPM range or just down low? Good mid-range response? Maybe give'em a year to work the fueling bugs out?

Seats are kind of non-issue to me. Have yet to sit on any OEM stock seat that felt comfortable. Aftermarket is your friend. :)

snatchy is across the whole range..

lets say im doin 50mph.. at 5gear, you think that it be smooth but once you put a tiny gas.
it snaps.. and accelerate.. so there is no smooth... its ether all or nothin with this bike..
all you really want to do is stay below speed limit but you cant....

so when you always on, off, on, off the throttle it hurts the wrist, neck, back, shoulder...
cause your shaken like a stupid old girls doll by a 10yr old
not my idea of a streetbike... or commuter

best bet to go test ride it...

I am picking mine up this upcoming Saturday. Great bike for money. Going to use mine as a second bike/commuter.

The fuelling issue is minor and overstated in my opinion. There's 3 electronic riding modes. The snappiness is mostly from riding mode A. Riding mode B is just fine. Same goes for the suspension. Going to have the front shocks revalved anyway and have the rears replaced with a Penske unit.

The seat is comfortable from what I have experienced. Everyone is different.

With minor tweaks this bike is awesome, especially for the money.

I test rode a FZ-09 at the AIM Expo last October. I also found the throttle snatchy, regardless of riding mode. I think it's a Yamaha attribute as it felt the same as my 2009 R1, before I had it reflashed and tuned with a Bazazz, which helped a lot, but didn't eliminate it. The suspension was way too soft for me, and it would definitely require some mods/upgrades to be sufficient coming from the 1199, even as a commuter (you still want to have fun on it, right?).

But now you're talking about around $10,000 after the mods. IMHO I would rather go with a gently owned Monster 1100 for even less money.

To each their own for sure though and good luck with your new bike.

Good point Jeff and I loved the 1100 monsters (circa '09....) except that I personally am NEVER buying another Duc with a plastic tank after that expanding tank bullsh!t.

I think the allure is paying under $8 large for a fun (almost throw-away) bike for commuter duties.

that said.... if it rides like shyte, then all bets are off I guess. None of the Yamaha dealers can keep them in stock down here in florida, so I was wondering if they were decent or not....
