Hi All,

We had a discussion in another thread about some bikes 'cutting out'. I have a 2020 base. My cut out symptoms are very sporadic and random.

Sometimes when I'm slowing down, if I pull the clutch, the engine cuts out. Seems like it's usually trying to shift from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd.

Sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks, sometimes it happens multiple times on the same ride.

The bike always starts right back up without any issues.

Someone mentioned that they suspected that it might have something to do with the quickshifter, so I'm wondering:

I just had the gear sensor recall done yesterday. I tried to deliberately reproduce the issue on the way home from the dealer (not using quickshifter as much). I didn't have any stalls, but the issue is so intermittent, it's hard to say if it's fixed or not.

I wanted to get a thread going so others can chime in with their results over time.

Charcoal Canister...see if the dealer. can remove it or tie it off. I've also heard from my dealer to fill the gas tank to no more than an inch below the cap. Needs that much room or the bike gets unhappy.

@jkeown how many miles on the bike?
5,200 miles. the cut out issue has been happening pretty much as long as i've had the bike though. it actually happened once on the way home from the dealer when I first picked it up. i was hoping it was an ethanol fluke. nope. my bike rarely gets ethanol infused petrol.

Have this issue on both my 2020 Monster 821 and 21 V2. About 5k on the monster and 2k on the Pani. Also, engine light comes on if you fill the tank to the neck.

you should really avoid filling any Ducati's tank to the neck. search around a bit for 'ducati, charcoal canister, hot start problems'

No charcoal canister, no more problem.

ETA: To be fair, I don't think its an overfill problem but rather fuel vapors condensing back to a liquid and flooding the canister. I've had my tank off...more than once...and if I ever tilted it too far forward, gas only came out of the overlow line which isn't plumbed into the canister, it would run through a tube and outside of the bike.

Currently at 8,500 miles with mine and have had that issue happen a handful of times even after I got my gear position sensor replaced pre recall. Bikes in the shop now for the recall so will let you know if it happens after that as well.

Bad news. Took a ride this morning. Had it happen twice. Once shifting from 3rd to 2nd, once when 2nd to first.

Guys that have installed aftermarket quickshifters, anyone have this happen ever? If so did it by chance go away after replacing the quickshifter?

For the greater good, i just did something I really didn't wanna do. disabled my quickshifter. will report back.

On my way to get the quickshifter recall done, I overfilled my tank accidentally (still pissed, might have been operator error).
Because I've been reading these threads I kept anticipating problems. Rode to the dealership no issues. Subsequently rode about 200 miles and no cutting out. It was hot as f*** both days.

That said, after the recall, my quickshifter had issues going from first to second at high revs (hit neutral a couple of times, real annoying). Also the cut seems to be longer than what it was before I had the recall done. All in all, thus far the recall's been a bust in my opinion.

thanks for the info. my issue is so intermittent it's hard to tell when it'll happen. i emailed my dealer with this thread, asked if they'd check with Ducati. since someone mentioned they've had this happen with a v2 and monster, i wonder if it's a general duc quick shifter related issue? no idea if the same quick shifter is used on different models.

yeah man, gotta be careful filling up. i usually pump slow and stop 2 inches or so from the top.

I think it makes sense for you to look into a fix. My recommendation to folks (like me) who are not having issues is not to look a gift horse in the mouth. That v4 qs was pretty awesome and I've had/have a few bikes w qs.

well, it seems to not be quick shifter related. i grudgingly disabled my quick shifter today, anticipating riding like that for weeks, months, waiting to see if the cut out issue would happen. very early into a ride today, it cut out when i was in 2nd, coming to a stop, pulled the clutch, stalled.
IDK. pretty frustrating and not particularly safe. i've got a termi slip on with t800 upmap on the way. curious to see if that'll make it go away

If we all get together and report this problem to the NHTSA maybe we can get this to be a recall of its own. I'm submitting a report atm.

If I’m reading this right you have the QS disabled and it stalled? That’s not a QS or gear sensor issue. I remember when I first bought my bike it would randomly stall when coming to a stop and pulling the clutch in. Hasn’t happened once since I went with a ECU tune.

Yep. Correct. Good to hear about the ecu tune seemingly fixing it. Thanks for the info

No problem, but not the best answer as Ducati should fix their .... so this doesn’t happen. I was gonna tune it anyway, just happened to be a positive side effect
