Gritty gears when cold

I noticed that my 1199, above all the bikes I have ridden, has quite gritty gears when cold (and this is CA cold - which is basically warm :D ). After a few gear changes everything goes back to normal.
Did anyone else experience that on a 1199?

Nope, my gear change is consistent and clean.

How is the clutch action? Maybe try adjusting from lever, to give you a bigger action and see if it makes any difference.

Clutch is fine, or so it looks like, as after maybe ten gear changes, everything go back to smooth again.
Oil level is fine, and life indicator says -3900 miles. I might do a preventive oil and filter change, just in case.

What do you mean by gritty gears? Do you just mean the gear changes are rough or the actual transmission feels rough while running?

Gears, unlike engines and hydraulics, actually like cold oil due to the viscosity. It creates a thicker oil film on the gear teeth and is generally smoother and prevents wear better. That said, the clearances in a transmission change as the temp increases due to the differences in thermal expansion between the aluminum housing and steel shafts/gears/ bearings, so things may "loosen up" and work smoother once it comes up to operating temp if you happen to have a box that had tight clearances to start.

Yeah, I meant rough.
Maybe not enough oil is getting there? Oil does not cling enough with metal when bike is sitting?
That might explain better WRT oil warming up, because it is literally a matter of gear changes, more than engine running and warming up the oil, the point where it gets better.
Max 10 gear changes, and it becomes smooth.

in my experience gear change becomes rougher as older the oil gets. Just change it and check what's happening.

but first i would bleed the clutch hydraulics, 5min work.

Yeah, oil change will be done as soon as I get the replacement oil filter cover, to toss away the hack job done by the previous owner.
I am led to believe this is not a clutch hydraulic issue, as gear become smooth pretty soon. A problem there would show as persistent.

The only issue I've ever noticed cold is that it is more difficult to make it stop in neutral, and has a tendency to flop all the way to 1st or 2nd. Goes away after you've rolled a few hundred yards.

Same for me, a bugger to find neutral when cold, once up to normal operating temps, all is good again

It's my experience as well;)
