Not sure what happened to piss off Brad but here is my PM session with him. He claims he is not a fan. You couldn't tell by the PM exchange.
Hello Endodoc,
I saw you post on the CF tail. If you do not mind and have the time would you mind weighing the difference between OEM and your new piece.
I have been looking at his stuff for a while. I have a 2012 1199S and have been doing as much as I can to lighten it.
I do not have the skills to do engine mods so concentrate on the running gear with Ti bolts, 520 chain, and full Akra system. I just enjoy playing with my bike in the workshop. I have kept a spreadsheet for all my weight savings.
I am to get some gold, magnesium wheels from marches ini
I like the look of the CF air box too
cheers Brad

Since i started from scratch I needed a body anyhow so I just went with CF. The tail was to reduce heat which is did nicely. I try and remove functional weight without sacrificing reliability. I made a Ti steer tube for my CNC triple. I made a Ti clutch slave rod. I had my friend at Northrop make a Ti rear drive axle out of a solid 20lb Ti billet blank. That saved a lot of weight and it was sprung weight.

Hi
Thank you for the detailed reply. I wish I had the skills to do that kind of thing. I may try and learn one day when I retire. I think the Ti axles are a great idea.
I do some flying too but only have 500 hours. Looking forward to retirement from the military do have more time to ride and play in the workshop. I may have one more trip to the middle east though before that. I do enjoy reading your posts as you have some real great tech knowledge which comes from doing not guessing. I only ever post about stuff I have done myself so I know if it is true or not.
There is so many self professed experts on the forum who have never turned a spanner.
thanks for the info.
Brad
