Ok - sorry to flog the dead horse, but here goeas an attempt at a poll.

Please reply if you want with your riding conditions and other comments.

I narrowed it down to people that have actually done the mod.

Thanks!

Kinda happy as the heat is largly down while at a stop however its now shown me that the frame is burning my legs when I squeeze the tank. I had red ring on each leg after an hours ride in jeans (where the subframe bolts to the engine just under the tank) I've bought a couple of 25mm plastic plugs (waiting delivery) to see if that helps, if it does then I'd consider the problem fixed.

Just to add, that I vote moderate/satified, but I have only fitted the rear heatshield an not the fugly rear cylinder ones.

Can you keep us in the loop on this? I noticed the same thing (that it was where my legs contact the frame that was causing the problem), but haven't bothered to look for a fix yet.

Still gets too damn hot. Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion it is the design of the bike, and nothing will ever solve the problem. Do you know if the Aprilla RV4 has the same problem since the hp is similar and it is a V design?

I did it when the air temperature was in the 80's and my mind kept telling me there was a significant difference

I will admit it does take longer (time wise) before i feel the intense heat, but once it is up to temperature, i think it is as hot as it ever was.

I had the rear exhaust loop heat shield installed only, I left the vertical head exposed. Like the looks of it that way and couldn't fathom the idea of covering up something that you want to ventilate. No issues with the heat coming from exhaust loop. The head gets hot and I need to grip the tank higher to avoid that heat. The sub-frame mounts get hot also, and the same, moving my thighs up onto the tank more helps. I've ridden in 98f weather on slow roads ( vehicles in front of me ), and it wasn't unbearable heat. I was wearing a leather jacket, full gauntlet gloves, carhart jeans ( I know, squid. But they don't make leather stuff for fat guys like me;)) Doha boots. The bike was running 216-225f and it was hot in the gear and the bike was warm, but not unbearable at all....

Thanks for participating in the poll and the additional comments - I appreciate it. So far it kind of looks like ........2/3 for, 1/3 against ... in simple terms.

wow im way off here it looks like. the rear heat shield i notice no real difference. the engine covers work great. havnt notice the frame get hotter but i ride with kevlar pants dont know if that matters.

The plugs only worked where they were, they don't poke out enough to stop your leg touching the frame so I bought a heat shield mat from a DIY store (Homebase for you brits £5.99)
Lifted the tank and after cutting the mat in half folded it around the frame, made a hole so it fixes inside the plastic frame insert and used the plug I bought to hold the other end secure. Lowered the tank to trap the top half and job done. How long the fabric lasts from my leg rubbing we'll see.

Love to see someone do a carbon fibre version that would be in place of the plastic insert that extends all the way to the tank end of the frame.
