I was installing the ram mount stem mount. the unit is basically the ball that has a rubber grommet on it and you put a screw threw it as it tightens it expands the grommet to a snug fit. simple right. well the nut which has a lock washer wasnt getting tight so i tried to get it out and the grommet and the nut fell into the steering stem.
1st thing it looks like i have to take the triple clamp off and open the stem to get these pieces out unless someone has an idea.

2 if i leave the screw and grommet in there will it do damage?

here is what i was doing so the screw grommet and washer fell inside

I don't think you will incur any damage. Unless I am mistaken, I believe you will find a plug cover at the base of the stem which you can remove to access the items stuck in there. You can access the stem plug, vertically above your front mudguard.

i don't think you will have a problem with it being in there. . I will say - there is very little chance you can get that ram mount to work if you have the stock stem nut - unless you plan on putting a nut underneath the collar to tighten it against. . the rubber compression fit doesn't work on the stock stem because of that reduced diameter collar.

I have the same ram mount, but instead of using the rubber cone that came with the kit I ended up using this toggle bolt, works much better!

it came with a nut for the bottom and it was spacifclly for the 1199 from ram. so i hope you are wrong but you may be right.

do you have to put a nut on the bottom of that bolt?

no that v shaped piece is the nut! It will make more sense when you have it in hand, picked up the toggle bolt at home depot

Try wrapping some double stick tape to the end of the magnet tool and you may get lucky and be able to pull out the rubber grommet

If you've got the bolt out and you have clear access to the hole in the centre of the grommet, use a straighten out coat hanger. Bend the tip back to create a hook that will be a snug fit inside the hole.
Add a little spit to the hook, insert into the grommet and extract..

guys thanks for all your help. the hole can be accessed above the front fender . it has a stopper there. the stopper is easily removable. its actually where a front stand would be placed inside if you were to take the wheel off.

Glad everything worked out.

Does that screw and toggle bolt have to get to the bottom of the hole. The screw would be like a foot and a half long if that's the case

the toggle bolt actually folds and is spring loaded, you fold the bolt and then push it into the hole in the steering stem bolt and it will spring open once pushed through then just tighten!

Thanks guys I got the 3/16 one has a larger head but the screw fits through and the toggle bolt is a nice size and it was long
