Is CANBUS ballast a must when going for HID xenon kit on a 1299 base model? Or is standard ballast sufficient, eg. no error messages on dash?
35w/5000-6000k.

Thanks.

I seriously doubt it, although if you want to be absolutely sure, run a 55W kit, which theoretically draws similar power as a 55W bulb, although I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me I'm completely wrong about the power draw. I do know that HID ballasts suck electricity in a different manner than an incandescent bulb....

I put 35w HID low beams and 55w high beams on my bike. No canbus, no codes. I just used the ballast that came in the kit.

I mostly did this so the color of the lights would match the drl leds. I honestly wouldn't do it again because they take a long time to warm up. When you switch to high beams you have very little light for several seconds. When using your passing light switch and you just end up strobing your low beams.

Someone recently posted about using a different halogen bulb to achieve the same color pairing. The cost was similar to the HIDs. I'd do that if I were doing it again.
