Hoping for a first track day

Hello all,

I have been very fortunate to be able to afford such a wonderful bike with my current '12 1199. But I do need some advice from more experienced and seasonal riders for my next big learning experience, which would be to take a motorcycle to a track day.

A bit of background, I have been riding solely on the street the last 6 years. I do not find much joy until I hit a nice curvy road in the mountains where I can push my limits a bit more( not speed but taking a good line!).

I am looking for advice on the next pair of gloves that would be suitable for a track day. In addition to seeking advice on whether to buy riding pants that will zip up with my current Dianese jacket or even if I should just buy a full suit.

Would appreciate any insight or recommendations!

My advice that would take pressure off you and make your day enjoyable.

Book a track riding school and you also may be able to hire the gear you need, get taught the right way first and you will progress quickly much easier. I’m old and did it the hard way trying to workout what to do myself.

Agreed! I went to a couple of track days a few years ago and realized what I was looking for was more specified instruction to make sure I was doing everything correctly. I signed up for California Superbike School for this May! Track day coaches are good and you will learn about riding track, but as an educator myself, I felt that there was a missing element that a dedicated school will provide.

Too bad you don't live in the Midwest, I'd say sign up for the school at NCM with us!

Not sure how the orgs are in Cali, but here in the Northeast the beginner groups usually include free instruction. If you don't have that in Cali then I would suggest signing up with a trackday school for your first time.

I agree with this ^^!

I am a Yamaha Champions Riding School and California Superbike School grad. I love instruction. I've done 6 CSS schools and most recently did the 2 Day Camp last May. I wasn't sure that the Camp was worth the money until I checked my lap times. Lap times don't lie!

If your going to track in the future get a decent one piece suit. Worth the money in the long run. Many track day organizations here in So Cal. Check Chuckwalla Raceway calendar. 2WTD, So Cal trackdays and Track Daz and Lets's Ride also...
