Howdy Y'All!
My first post.. thanks for 'Welcoming me..':)
I'm sure, someone from here would've answered something related to my post to someone else from sometime before... really! But here goes..
I owned and rode an R1 and put on about 300 miles and sold it, when I had my learners permit.. ~ 2 years ago..
Now, I just got my M1..MSF course.. :)cool:) and wanna get an 1199 Panigale  I also just got my DucatiDarkRider helmet..
My over-all riding experience ..been riding for centuries in India and about 300 odd miles in the US .. so I'm not really afraid of riding anywhere, granted I still need some "practice". The Panigale will be my 2'nd bike in the US and keep in mind, Indian bikes are way too smaller..so other than just basics it doesn't quite help..
Here's the deal
Bike - 1199 Panigale:cool: 2012 or 2013?
Model - I'm not sure which one to get? I'm being a realist*
Money - $$$ Ain't an issue...
The target of my post is to find some of you that may've gone through a similar experience and are willing to share?
Thoughts, expert suggestions guys? :p
Don't give me all that crap... get a CBR, Ninja, or go back to R1 first..
Your replies appreciated.. :p

I"d say go for it the Pani is awesome in every sense of the word. personally i"d say the easiest superbike to ride made so far. With your lack of experience i"d say take it easy, pure common sense dictates that. Big V twins are deceptively fast and can surprise even seasoned riders, riding one for the first time. Your on here, money no issue,i"m talking to a upcoming Pani owner already. Just get one and enjoy it. Money has always been the decider on what i"ve bought in the past. Go fill your boots.;)

Went from a cruiser bike to a SB...similar experience.
Take it for a test ride and if it doesn't scare you, buy one.
I'd wait for the 2013 which should be a more refined bike with most of the early issues worked out.
Model doesn't matter since you need to modify it for your intended use anyway.
Get the ABS and hook up with some good riders who can teach you how to ride a SB or sign up for some track days. Enjoy ;)

Thanks for your +ve talk guys! It adds great value to my thought process and very helpful!..
I have to start connecting myself with my bike of course, when I get one asap.. looking forward to it...
Cheers:cool:

buy the 2013.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too, especially with that fact that all 2013 Panigales will have ABS as standard and will cost $ 1k more than the 2012 models, but the strong point is that the 2013 models will have all those 'Recalled 2012 issues' fixed.. All-in-all, makes more to sense to get the 2013
Just that, I'm not sure, when they'd have my bike delivered..

Whether you buy now or early next year really won't matter. It will depend on what stock is in hand in your country. I know with cars we would search the country if we had sold a specific model so we could get the car delivered and more importantly paid. There won't be any guarantee you get a later build.

At the end of the day next years model is still the same as this years with the addition of the oil sight hole, which really if your dealer is doing their jobs properly you won't even have to worry about.

My advice if you do buy one, get it early in the new year, at least that way it'll be registered 2013 making it a little more valuable come resale.

I double checked the ducati usa site and they still list abs as optional for 2013, I too had read that it was standard on 13s.

Ah, there you go.. actually I went to 2 Ducati Dealerships y'day in the BayArea and both of them have confirmed that ABS will be standard.. one of the reasons why the extra $1k increase.. I guess we'll have to wait until they're out!

Here, in SF with in the 50 mile radius there are about 4-5 Ducati dealerships so pretty much every model is available except for the 13's and they're expecting delivery starting 12 Dec and 13 Jan, Feb..
Getting one early next year and registering in 13, thats a great point..

Personally I couldn't wait, standing in the dealership with the decision "take this one NOW or wait 3 months" It was a no brainer for me, this is California and you can ride year round, why rob yourself of 3 months of the best bike available? And if money isnt an issue that's even less of a reason to wait, they all drop in value after you ride it out the door. Pay the extra now and get ABS, you will not be disappointed. That's obviously just my opinion, whatever you do you will enjoy it, best bike I've ever owned and if I had to do it all again I would do exactly the same.

That is the main reason (beyond safety) I got ABS. My dealer said because of the new laws in Europe requiring it, he had heard it would be standard in the states very soon. So if I ever was to sell it, everyone would be looking for the ABS models.

I'm partial to the tricolore so I'd vote for '12. Of course I'd also want to do that since a deal could be had, but if money is not object, then that might not matter to you. But paint scheme alone sold me ont the tricolore. And sounds like your mind is made up, but there are certainly smoother rides out there to cut your teeth on, like the Aprilia or BMW. I am still getting used to the jerkiness of the V twin. But don't get me wrong, I LOVE my bike.

which bike

The 2013 appears to be the same bike. The recall issues seem to all have been about fasteners, swing arm/shock bolt mis application, and adding a flange @ steering damper, and from what I see on this forum, some fasteners, including hose clamps that were not tight. rushed thru production it seems. The issue that they might have addressed would be add mid range torque, and reduce top power, for more ridability in town. Apparently they did not do that. I am just getting used to keeping the rrrrs up. You have to like wheelies.

a new ecu reflash/map is out from ducati which addresses midrange as well as throttle response. I haven't had it installed yet, but some that have are very happy with the results.

You may be able to get a better deal on a 2012 model. If so, just get the base w/ ABS (which retails $1,000 more than base).

With 4-5 local dealers, do NOT pay delivery & setup and see if you can get them to make a deal. Trust me, they will work with you to move inventory to open the floor for 2013's.

The dealer will take care of all the recall stuff and outside of the oil window in the fairing I would bet most of the things they are recalling are how they will come out of the factory.

Just stay out of race mode for a while. :D
