I know some aspects of mounting the IMU have been discussed particularly isolation damping and angle of the mount. I’m currently working on a somewhat unconventional build and need to know if the location of the IMU matters? (Can I put it somewhere else other than the upper front of the bike)? Example,,my BSD Marelli IMU is under the seat and lies flat. Thanks in advance.

I dont know, but an IMU senses six axis data, so I would imagine that height is important otherwise its calibration for angular velocity would be out . Imagine if you put it at the height of the wheels, it would need to be much faster and more accurate than at bracket height. I installed one in a boat and it was pretty specific about where it needed to be in relation to the centres of movement.

I would try to keep it in the same place if it was me

Our Motec system has it mounted on top of the airbox, i would think somewhere there or above would work ok. We're going to be mounting them to the top triple for our domestic racing, that seems to work best.

i count 53 acquisition channels only for the IMU, in a paper i have, (not about the stock ecu.)
so, what data they use? and how?
and how important that is?
if no error-error occurs, does that mean everything is fine?
i would try to observe the differences in Rainmode with several imu positions.

In cars (Ford) where they use a 3 or 4-axis sensor the position is always near the middle of the car. In the cars where this isn't possible for practical reasons they use a softwarealgoritm to compensate for this.
So I think it's important to get the IMU as close as possible to his original position to get accurate info for the ECU.

The IMU needs to stay in its original location with the original mounting orientation. All driver assist systems are calibrated with the signals from that location and base position.

Ok I’ll go with that, maybe I will toss the stock electronics on this one. Thanks

What kind of build is this? Race bike? Cafe racer? Hypernaked? If you want to replace the stock electronics there of course is a Marelli system as used on WSBK but you are looking at $10k plus just for the basic hardware and harness.

It’s a hybrid of a few things but in a nutshell, it’s a true naked sort of rat rod (modified 1299SL) with no bodywork at all. All the electronics go in a custom fabricated tail section. I have a BSD Marelli kit in a box that I never used but I may go Motec. Both of those systems are complete overkill for this project but it does give me more flexibility than the Mitsubishi platform which I am currently using with a modified Tamburini harness. I have to build a new harness regardless (I do have all the tools and specialty components for Autosport harnessing) so I really don’t care what the system is. Ideally all I want is engine management, and QS function, I could care less about all the fancy rider aid crap 90% of riders brag about but never use. Thanks for the assistance.
