Is my thermostat toast?

Just recently traded an 15’ R1 for a 15’ 1299 and have been noticing that this bike takes a long time to warm up and doesn't get as warm at highways speeds as my R1 did and my rsv4. Its fairly cold still in nyc and on a 45-50 degree day all the bikes i’ve owned till now usually hover around 160F at highway speeds. My 1299 seams to stay in the 140’s rarely breaking into the 150’s. And it takes forever to warm up if left sitting after a cold start. Is my thermostat toast?

my 959 engine temp hovers around 160F at highway speeds and 170F at cruising speeds if temps are around 45F.

You might just have a off-calibrated thermostat?

I'm just saying your thermostat may be mis-calibrated given the numbers. I don't know of a way to fix it other than to replace it. Perhaps the biggest concern you'd have is since your thermostat reports temps lower than actual, it may turn the fan on too late as your bike gets hot

I don't believe its reporting an incorrect temp, i just think it may be stuck open or something. Bike still goes to 220F while sittin and the fan kicks on and regulates itself fine when its hot, just struggles to get to proper operating temp when its below 50F outside.

My bike behaves exactly the same way. If its around 40F out it struggles to get up to 160F if its not sitting. If I stop for a light or am stuck behind cars it comes right up. I don't think Ducati thought alot of people were going to be riding in the cold with these bikes.

I don't know if this is correct behavior but my bike acts the same as yours.

And that's not just the superbikes. My Multistrada does the same thing. On the highway on a 40-50 degree day the operating temp hovers around 138. And the thermostat doesn't even open until 150. Pretty normal.

i had recently a broken thermostat housing, the spring loaded pin of the thermostat has pushed thru the plastic.
(Ducati has changed the Part(number).)

it had a little water loss, first thought was water pump...
Once it is free to have a look at the housing, it's "easy" to remove the thermostat for testing

Thanks for the feedback guys... glad to know this is normal for ducati’s. I just got this thing and ended up having to change the stator after putting 600 miles on it, at 6400 miles lol... dont wanna spend any more on it till the 7500 mile service which is coming up soon. Im now at 6680 miles it had 5800 miles on it feb 16th when i picked it up. Also i got an austin racing gp2 ordered so i need to keep my cash safe for its arrival so i can pay to get it installed, lol.

below is my toasted stator... ended up finding a new one on ebay for $400... but if the stator is going to be a continuing issue anyone know of any better quality aftermarket options?

recently went for a ride, I was seeing the following numbers:
50 F ambient temp
50 mph cruising speed
150 F engine temp

I'd say what you're seeing is completely normal.
