Is the 1299 really going to melt me where it counts?

Hey guys, I've read several posts that noted how uncomfortable the bike can get when it's hot. Curious if anyone can compare between a Daytona 675 which I used to ride which in my opinion got pretty hot under the seat or a S1000 which I ride now? I'm sure the S1000 is cooler but curious to know how much or not it is from someone who's ridden both?

I test rode a 1299 today from Newport to Huntington Beach with temperature around 70 and it was great but that's not my typical ride. Going to go for longer ride Wednesday to ride more typical routes.

I try to avoid stoplights and have been lusting after a Duc since I was a teen so the heat thing is unlikely to be a deal breaker but still keen to take advantage of the knowledge you fine forum members have. Thanks!

Stop and go commuting in higher temps can be somewhat uncomfortable. If you're moving, you're good to go.

Also, there are numerous threads in this forum that have discovered how to do mods/add aftermarket parts that can help reduce this effect. The heat is one of the few flaws that people complain about over and over... It's really not as bad as you'd think after reading countless threads/posts about it.

depends greatly upon your local weather. In the South, 95 degrees, high humidity, the 1299 unmodified will redefine pain as it melts your privates and sterilizes you for life.

same bike, 5 months later, 55 degrees, pipes heat wrapped, subframe heat taped, NASA Pyrogel insulation installed, carbon subframe covers added, and stock heat shield tossed for the carbon-only shield used on the Panigale R, and it's fairly cozy. Only superbike that comes with a heated seat for autumn riding comfort.

Daytona 675 is nowhere near as hot. 675 is tolerable. Panigale needs modification for street riding. Far too hot for the streets. I had a 2010 675SE and it was not hot at all with an akrapovic slipon.

Another Daytona 675 owner, not even on the hottest, most humid day, will this bike come close to the Panigale on a warm day if you have to sit in any type of traffic.

I read about the whole burning crotch syndrome with this bike before riding one, and then purchasing one. Barring the one time being stuck in 90+ degree temps, in stop & go traffic for an extended period of time, never felt it was such a huge issue. I think my wrist hurt more from the clutch than the stones from being super heated.

As long as you're in full leathers you'll be fine. No point of really riding these in anything less as you're not really riding at that point if you are in jeans. Wanna go for a cruise get a adventure or a touring bike.

It's blister hot

I've got a 2015 S model with the Ducati OEM Akrapovic Race exhaust. When it was installed it came with an Akra heat shield. This combination is truly uncomfortable when wearing blue jeans. Leather pants or a 1 piece are fine, but I've gone on two rides, (in jeans), where I've come back with blisters on my right inner thigh from the heat. These were rides in the country with a minimum number of stop and goes. I think I will research whether the "R" heat shield is different from the heat shield that was packaged with the exhaust. One potential solution is a leg heat-shield worn under the blue jeans, constructed from spandex and some thin heat reflecting cloth or leather.

I've been in stop and go traffic, downtown, hightway and racetrack only time I noticed the heat was with the OEM exhaust on.. Once I put the Akra Evo system on nothing.. Not even a twing of it..

I have both at the moment and the Triumph is nowhere near as hot as the 1299; not even in the same ballpark when it comes to commuting, or stop and go traffic.

In the Summer, even with the mods I have made, it's still a bit much, but I continue to commute on it daily even so.

At the moment, given that the temperatures have been in the 20's, I'm quite happy that it runs hot. :D

So what is exactly going on for someone to get blisters? Sounds like a flare up of Herpes, not a ride on a motorcycle?!

Never even ridden my bike in leathers YET (jeans, race boots & leather jacket) and never felt it got to that point..

Thanks for all the responses, especially the comparisons to the Daytona.

I'm taking the 1299 for a few hours on Wednesday, assuming I don't come back with blisters I think I'll go ahead and grab the heat shields mentioned in another thread and deal with it :)

I also have both a Daytona 675R 14 model and a Panigale 1199. Sure you can feel the heat from the Pani but You can live with it. Don't think I can be without the Pani no matter how hot it gets Lol

I live in Vegas and yes it gets hot. I have a really high pain tolerance and at the lights it's sometimes unbearable. I have a nice permanent mark on my inner thigh as a reminder. I've wrapped my exhaust which helped a bit. Get the proper heat shield installed and pick up a set of the shift tech covers and you'll be fine.

What shield to use with Akra Evo?

Did you install the CF heat shield that came with the exhaust or use a different shield? Do you have an S or regular model? I just compared photos of heat shields and both the R and the OEM S shields are significantly larger than the heat shield packaged with the Akrapovic Evo system. Not that the larger size will solve my problem, but it seems reasonable to think so.

I use the cf heat shield Akra supplied and it's a drastic cool off from the Oem exhaust. I have a base model.

Akra heatshield is definitely hotter than the large stock heatshield that comes with the stock exhaust. No way possible is it cooler with the akra heatshield. Stock heatshield did a better job of keeping the heat below the heatshield but that also resulted in a melting rear hugger that glazed on the surface. The akra shield is more open and allows the heat to escape from below the heatshield area and keeps your hugger from melting.

It's only bad if you plan on having children in the future :D
(I'm an old fart at 61 ;)) I don't worry about it much..

However it will run cooler if you can get it tuned properly and richen it up on the low end.. These bikes come from the factory running real lean to pass the EPA .. I installed a Rapid Bike Racing module and it definitely runs better and cooler now. And it gets real hot here in Austin Tx. :D
