First time using this forum. Still getting used to navigating. Is there something out there that can use that's portable, meaning I don't need to plug it into a wall, that can charge my battery? Telling me to just take the battery out is not realistic. As many of you know, our battery on our SuperSport is underneath the fairing. That seems like an awful lot of work to get to the battery pull it out charge it bring it back down slap it back in put your fairings back on to go for a ride. I've had so many ideas but can't find one that is realistic. The other issue may be obvious at this point, I live in an apartment community where I don't have access to an outlet. Can't use an extension cord and drag it all the way from the building out to where I park. Bike has a cover, of course; I'm hoping I'll be able to hide whatever I figure out underneath the cover. This has never been an issue before; I've always had a garage or place to plug in. Really don't think it is a great idea or sounds fun to sit out in my car attach an outlet to my car then plug in a tender and sit there while my battery charges for 24 hours. (Sorry about the dry & goofy humor, can't help it sometimes…) Not trying to be silly or a Butt, but, (tea-he-he, 2 butts) if I have to pull my battery to charge it this once, that's fine. But I can't expect myself to pull it every single time. That leads me to a battery maintainer and if there is such a product that maybe I could hide under my seat. Maybe I convert a small power bank to plug a small battery maintainer into and hide both underneath my seat. HA! Anyone have any idea if there's any product out there that can do what I'm talking about. Maybe just a regular power bank and chain that to my bike then plug a maintainer into that. Right... Well, maybe. Bah-ha-ha, worse idea yet. PLEASE help. Yes, I'm a loan rider. Hard for me to find anyone to ride with, so not much access to any helpful info.

Is this a serious post?

Why would you need to recharge it? Do you plan on only riding it once every few months?

If you want to eliminate any worries of charging, get a lithium battery n forget about it. It'll last for over 6 months and still start easy.

Yeah, it's actually real. Battery is dead right now and I'm trying to figure out options. Tried to jump it, off my Prius battery, that didn't work. Connected it several different ways that I've seen in posts. I have a volt tester, but haven't checked to see how much it's left. But it must be enough because it tries to turn over. I figure if I'm going to invest in a product I might as well get one that charges it as well in case this happens again. Out of town, don't know anybody that would come start it. That kind of thing. I believe it comes with a lithium battery and I think that's what I have since I didn't change it out. I'm probably over thinking it as I tend to do. But again, I don't want to purchase something for one time use, might also have something for multiple purposes.

Ultimately I'd like to get a battery maintainer that I don't have to plug into an outlet. I thought I saw or was told there is something that you can charge, set it up, then take the maintainer device off and charge it up again and repeat. I was also told you shouldn't jump your battery more than 5 times. So if I have a maintainer, I was also told I can make the battery last a couple years or so. I don't know, too much information too many different answers, I'm at a loss at this point.

IMHO, bad batteries kill regulators and bad regulators kill batteries. It would be wise to buy a new battery. If you are overworking the charging system, the excess current is going to overheat the weakest point.

I'm not a fan of jump starting vehicles with electronic components or roll starting.

Why would that possibly matter?

I don't think the Super Sports come with Li batteries. You can't properly check to see if a battery is dead with a multimeter. It has to be load tested. Just about any auto parts store can do this. You're going to have to take it out.

There are portable jump box/battery chargers on the market, which are just larger batteries in a carrying case. I think you run into the issue of someone stealing it if you leave it outside unattended.

There is.

I'm in the same situation, no power outlet near my parking spot so I use this once every couple of weeks.

It's basically an OP power bank, 62500 mAh, 225WH. It powers most things short of a microwave.

Thank you guys for your help and input.

Thomasmryan – You are right. I should just get new battery. Just realized mine is 3 years old!.. Yet, I was originally thinking it would be fine to charge or jump because it almost turns over and almost catches. Rep at Cycle Gear said don’t jump more than 5 times max or your battery will be shoot. Came so close a couple times. So I didn’t even consider the age of my battery. I usually started up regularly with no problems. This time, I believe I let too much time pass without starting it.

bp_SFV4 – I can’t find where I saw that it was a lithium battery. I’ll take your word on it. Yeah, I’ll need to pull it out at this point. I’ve seen the portable jump starters. Yet, don’t think I want to be in a scenario where I have to jump the battery several times. That’s why I want a maintainer. But you’re right, probably will get stolen. That’s my dilemma. When and if I get a new battery, I’ll still want to hook it up to a maintainer. So that’s still an unresolved issue. Many post say you can jump it if you a certain amount of volt registering. I haven’t connected my little USB quick connect and volt meter yet so I’m interested to see what the reading because the battery is not completely dead.

double0 – So many people say it’s okay to jump from a car. Most saying don’t start car. Some say only connect positive and ground negative. So many ways. I need to try doing it with grounding the negative, IF I try again.

When I replace the battery, gel or lithium? Does one have the capability of keeping a charge longer or maybe not have to have a trickle charger or maintainer on it at all? I know that they both are, just haven’t looked closer to see the performance difference.

PIC from Manual. Seen this before?... I haven’t, I’m going to check it out tomorrow.

Maintenance of Battery.jpg

It is 20 fasteners to the battery on the V2 but the bike came with an Optimate lead instead of using the diagnostic plug.

Lithium batteries need a specific charging sequence for longevity and like a 50% charge state for storage. Most peeps use Ctek but I'm not a fan of battery maintainers either.

See what battery you have first so there is no mounting drama.
